Niantic, the company behind the immensely popular Pokemon Go game, has revealed that the total number of downloads for the game has crossed the 750 million mark. The game was launched back in July last year. "It's been an incredible first year for Pokémon GO thanks to the passion and dedication from the global Trainer community," Niantic CEO said John Hanke. It's worth mentioning that Pokemon Go crossed the 500 million downloads milestone back in September last year, a couple of months after it was launched. The game is fast approaching its first anniversary, which the company...

HTC U11 review: Squeeze U
For the past four iterations, HTC had been touting an all metal unibody design in its flagships. This year, HTC's arrives with a fresh, new, and more fragile look. Tuned with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 CPU, top-notch audio experience , and a water resistant glass sandwich design, will the new HTC U11 be able to swoon loyal Samsung or Apple customers to HTC?
6-inch ZTE Max XL arrives at Sprint for $192
Back in April ZTE launched a new phablet, the Max XL, at both of Sprint's prepaid brands - Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile. It was apparently quite successful over there, and today it's also become available at Sprint itself, online as well as in select physical stores. The ZTE Max XL can be yours for just $192 all-in. That's $62 more than what it goes for at Boost and Virgin, but you can also get it on postpaid plans at Sprint if that's your thing. The handset ships with a 6-inch 1080p IPS touchscreen with Gorilla Glass 3 on top, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 435 chipset at the helm (with a...
Next iPhones may not support gigabit LTE speeds
A new report out today says Apple will use both Qualcomm and Intel modems for its trio of upcoming iPhones, reprising the strategy it employed last year for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. And like last year, this means the company will resort to throttling Qualcomm's modems in order to ensure that they perform at the same level as Intel's. While Qualcomm already has a modem that can theoretically reach gigabit LTE speeds (and this is included in the Snapdragon 835 chipset that powers 2017's Android flagships), Intel isn't there yet. It's reportedly working on a modem with similar capabilities,...
Buying a OnePlus 5 will require an invite, at least in India
Have you ever met anyone who was into the OnePlus invite system before it was retired? Actually, have you ever heard of anyone that liked that system of buying smartphones? Probably not. But do brace yourself, for it looks like the much-hated invites will be back for the OnePlus 5, at least in India. On the official landing page for the handset's launch in the subcontinent you can purchase an invite for the unveiling event that will take place in Mumbai on June 22. That invite will cost you INR 999 ($15 or 13). It will obviously let you attend said event, but here's where it gets...

Two new iPad Pro ads are out, focusing on power and the Apple Pencil
Apple started this week by announcing quite a few new products during its WWDC keynote on Monday. The new iPad Pro 10.5 and the revamped iPad Pro 12.9 are perhaps the most important devices that got official on that occasion. And today, ahead of their availability, the company has decided to start an ad campaign highlighting their most important features. Two ads have been outed so far for the new iPad Pro models. One focuses on the power they both pack thanks to the A10x Fusion chipset built-in. This provides "a new kind of power", the company says. The other ad is all about the...
Google Pixel XL 2 gets caught in benchmark with bigger screen, Snapdragon 835
The latest prototype smartphone to be put through the paces of GFXBench is Google's upcoming Pixel XL 2, the successor for the original Pixel XL from 2016. This device should launch alongside the Pixel 2 at some point this fall, perhaps with a third model joining them. They've all been rumored to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 chipset, and the aforementioned benchmark run confirms that. GFXBench's info listing also tells us that the next Pixel XL will feature a slightly bigger screen than its predecessor. For some reason, the benchmark's only taken into account the size and...
HTC U11 is out in the US, yours for $649
The U11 that HTC officially announced last month has finally become available in the US today. Well, theoretically that is. The phone only seems to be properly in stock at Amazon at the moment, where you'll have to pay $649 for an unlocked unit. The colors to choose from are Brilliant Black, Amazing Silver, and Sapphire Blue. The U11 should also be available at HTC's own online store, but while you can hit a big "Buy Now" button over there, the text directly under that says the following: "HTC U11 will ship in 2-4 weeks". So if you want the phone fast you should probably stick with Amazon,...
Sony Xperia L1 lands in the UK, Ireland, and continental Europe
Almost one month ago Sony's Xperia L1 became available in the US in unlocked form, priced at $199.99. And today it's finally time for it to go on sale across the pond too. As expected, it's landed in the UK, where you can purchase one straight from Sony's online store for £169. But that's not all. The budget device is also available in Ireland, as well as continental Europe - in places such as Germany and France, for example. Basically if you have an official Sony online store in your EU country, you should see the Xperia L1 listed already. The phone is priced at 199 in Eurozone...
GFXBench outs most OnePlus 5 specs
If you've been living under a rock for the past several days, OnePlus 5 is launching on June 20. Yesterday the company showed the back design with a dual-camera setup and now an alleged benchmark on GFXBench outed most of the specs of the "flagship killer". This is the second benchmark listing in the last 24 hours after the OnePlus 5 appeared on Geekbench as well. If the listing is legit, the OnePlus 5 will have a 5.5" screen with Full HD resolution like its predecessor, the OnePlus 3T. Unsurprisingly, OnePlus decided to go with the Snapdragon 835 SoC with octa-core CPU and Adreno...
Hands-on: Oppo R11 and R11 Plus in the metal
Today Oppo announced the R11 Plus alongside the smaller R11 and we were there to watch it unfold and, as it happens, snap a ton of photos of the two devices. We wanted to share those photos with you guys so that you can get an idea of what the two new metal-clad phones look like. The Oppo R11 Plus is the bigger of the two though it has the exact same design as the R11. It packs a 6" 1080p AMOLED and a bigger 4,000mAh battery. Both carry a dual camera setup on the back that consists of a 16MP normal camera sitting behind a bright f/1.7 lens and a 20MP telephoto (or zoom) lens with a...
Asus plans Zenfone 4 series launch in July
In January Asus was planning to launch its new Zenfone 4 series in May. Yet the Taiwanese company is now having a change of plans and is postponing the release to the end of July because of "design overhaul and efficiency upgrades". Jerry Shen, Asus CEO, said the Zenfone 4 smartphones would arrive in Q3 2017 with competitive prices, aiming to turn around the money-losing phone business of the company. Preliminary financial results show Asus is struggling with operating loss but will swing back to profitability by the end of 2017. The upcoming Zenfone 4 series will have a flagship...
Nokia announces 170 job cuts in Finland
The telecom network equipment manufacturer Nokia laid off 170 employees from its division in Finland. The job cut is part of a plan to save money after it acquired its main competitor the Franco-American Alcatel-Lucent back in 2016. Nokia currently has 6,100 employees in Finland and more than 100,000 around the world. This is a second mass job cut after 960 people were laid-off from the Finnish offices last year. 1,400 more will be released in Germany by the end of 2017. The reductions are part of a 1.2 billion cost-savings plan Nokia is implementing after the 2016...
OpenSignal: South Korea has best LTE coverage, US speeds among the lowest
OpenSignal released a report on the global state of LTE in the first quarter of 2017. It is based on 19 billion measurements across 75 countries during the period. 4G penetration is the highest in East Asia, with South Korea and Japan being the only two countries in the world, providing at least 90% LTE coverage. Despite its size, the US is fourth in the global ranking with 86.5% availability. East Asian countries occupy the first two places in 4G speed comparison and Eastern Europe joins the party with Hungary, Croatia, and Bulgaria in Top 10. Western Europe is quickly catching...
Alphabet's Boston Dynamics is being acquired by SoftBank
Sprint's parent company, SoftBank, has announced that it has agreed to acquire Boston Dynamics, a robotics engineering firm that's currently part of Google's parent Alphabet. Financial details weren't revealed, all the official announcement saying is that "the transaction aligns with SoftBank's investments in paradigm-shifting technologies and its vision of catalyzing the next wave of smart robotics." The deal also includes acquisition of Japanese bipedal robotics company Schaft. The announcement comes over an year after rumors started surfacing that Boston Dynamics has been put...
Huawei Honor 9 specs confirmed by leaked promo: 12MP + 20MP dual camera, Kirin 960 chipset
What sits between the nova 2 and the P10? Soon (June 12, Monday), the answer will be the Huawei Honor 9. A promo that landed on Weibo a bit early confirms the key specs that we've seen in numerous leaks. The star attraction will be the dual camera on the back, 12MP + 20MP, similar to both the nova 2 and P10. We've seen a camera sample, though it was too compressed to discuss quality. Anyway, the powerful Kirin 960 chipset sets this handset apart from the mid-range nova and put it closer to the premium P-series. The Honor 9 is slightly better even, as one version will feature 6GB of RAM...
HTC U11 India launch imminent
For those in India who are waiting for the HTC U11 smartphone to arrive in the country, here's some good news: the device is now listed on the Taiwanese company's official India website, suggesting an imminent launch. The listing reveals both 4GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB memory configurations, confirming LlabTooFeR's recent claim that the 6GB version will be available in India. Sadly, there is currently no information on exactly when the device will be launched in the Asian country, and what price tag it will carry. But given the development (availability of official listing), at-least...
Samsung Galaxy C10 specs and pricing revealed
The Galaxy C-series by Samsung are limited to China, but one device inevitably gathers more interest than usual. The Galaxy C10 is expected to be launched in Q3 2017 and become the first Samsung smartphone with dual camera. Better yet, we got to learn its specs and pricing ahead of the actual announcement. Asia Business Daily reports that Samsung China is already testing the Galaxy C10. It will be powered by Snapdragon 660 chipset and will be coupled with 6 GB RAM. Sources say that if there are not enough Qualcomm chipsets on time, the SoC might be Samsung's in-house Exynos...
Oppo R11 Plus officially unveiled: 6" AMOLED screen, 4,000mAh battery
June 5 was just a preview, now Oppo is unveiling the R11 and R11 Plus in earnest. We already saw the R11, so let's focus on the Plus model now. Not that there's much difference between the two. The Oppo R11 Plus boasts a 6" display - an AMOLED panel with 1080p resolution - and a large 4,000mAh battery (complete with VOOC Flash charging). This dwarfs the 5.5" screen and 3,000mAh (still VOOC-supporting) battery of the regular R11. Beyond this point, things are pretty much identical. You're getting a fast-but-efficient Snapdragon 660 chipset running Android 7.1.1 Nougat painted with Color...
Nougat-powered Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro spotted in benchmarks
Seems like Nougat will soon be rolled out to the Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro. The device has been spotted on both GFXBench as well as Geekbench, with the listings revealing Android 7.0 OS. This indicates that the update is currently under testing. The phone was launched back in May last year, and it came with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box. No information on exactly when it will get Nougat. Here's hoping that testing goes smoothly and the roll out begins sooner rather than later. Source 1 2 | Via
Samsung Galaxy A3 (2016) starts getting Nougat
Samsung has started pushing out a new update to its Galaxy A3 (2016) smartphone. Weighing in at around 950MB, the update brings along Android Nougat (version 7.0). Currently, units in Germany are getting the update, although other regions should also get it soon. As is usually the case with OTA roll-outs, it may take some time for the update to hit your device. You can manually check for the update by heading to your handset's Settings menu. Via

Samsung's next phablet flaghsip - Galaxy Note8 - has been the subject of a few rumors and leaks so far, revealing details like 6.3-inch Infinity Display, dual rear-camera setup, and Android 7.1.1. Now, a new rumor has surfaced revealing the chipset of the device. The rumor says the handset will be powered by the yet to be announced Snapdragon 836. The report notes the Snapdragon 836 chipset would be a slightly improved version of the Snapdragon 835 SoC, which is the latest and the greatest mobile chipset Qualcomm is currently offering. Snapdragon 836 wwill feature an octa-core...
