It is time for IFA 2018. The most expected announcement is the flagship Sony Xperia XZ3 that appeared at numerous benchmarks and revealed four color options earlier this month. Now, just hours before the official unveiling, the full press renders of the Xperia XZ3 from all sides appeared online, leaving practically nothing to the imagination. Sony Xperia XZ3 in Black Looking at the renders, it seems like Sony decided to skip the trena dy notch for now. The device will have tall screen and what appears to be a curved edge of the screen on both sides. The fingerprint...

Our Samsung Galaxy Note9 video review is up

Few phone lines have die-hard fans, but the Galaxy Note is one of them. Last year the Note8 rode high on a wave of pent-up anticipation, now the Samsung Galaxy Note9 has come to try and best it. Alright, in as few words as possible, what's new? The battery now has 4,000mAh capacity, which was definitely felt in our Endurance testing. More storage - 128GB really should be the standard for flagships. The S Pen now has Bluetooth integration, turning it into a handy remote that's always with you. You could control the music, for example, while listening on the new stereo speakers. Then...

Xiaomi sold at least 68,000 Pocophone F1 units in less than five minutes

Xiaomi's Pocophone F1 (known in India as the Poco F1) is quite the intriguing device, with its top of the line specs and incredibly low price. The handset's first flash sale in the subcontinent went live today at 12 PM, and apparently it was Flipkart's biggest and fastest flagship sale ever. That's because sales totalling more than INR 200 crore (2 billion) were logged in less than five minutes. The company hasn't announced exactly how many units got bought, but we can infer that from the phone's pricing. #POCOF1: thank you all for a fantastic response to the first sale! We're happy to...

vivo X23 live images surface, comparing it to the Oppo R17

vivo's X23 is due to become official on September 6, which means these days there are a lot of leaks about it going around. Yesterday the Chinese company itself posted official images of the phone on its website (though they weren't meant to be publicly accessible). Today someone in possession of an X23 unit decided to create an impromptu photo session, showing the upcoming handset in all its glory, somewhere in the wild. The next two pictures compare the X23 to the Oppo R17, and while they definitely do look similar, there are a few differences - namely, the positioning of their...

Wear OS gets a major re-design

Google just announced a big re-design of its Wear OS in a blog post. The focus here is on usability, new Google Health features and the Google Assistant. Firstly, the notification menu is easier to navigate, more compact and adds a few nifty shortcuts. For example, a simple swipe up will display all of your notifications and a smart reply is just a tap away. This won't even make you leave your notification stream. And by swiping down, you can now access more shortcuts like Google Pay and the "Find my phone" functionality. Google Assistant gets smarter and more contextual. It can...

Our Oppo F9/Oppo F9 Pro video unboxing and hands-on is up

We're working on a full review of the Oppo F9 Pro, but we though we'd start with an unboxing on video and give you a quick tour the key features and of the phone and our favorite design elements. The F9 sports the teardrop display that is set to be the next big thing in smartphone design after the wide notches were met with mixed feelings. The glass on the rear features a tessellated gradient that is also becoming quite popular. During the review process we'll put the 3,500mAh battery and 20W VOOC fast charger through their paces. For now check out the video for a quick look at how...

However, a British online retailer claims to have the phone in stock a month early. Unlocked Mobiles is currently selling the Xperia XZ2 Premium and offers international shipments as well. Unfortunately, the only color option is Chrome Black and the same goes for the storage configuration - 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The asking price of the...

HMD trademarks PureDisplay - the return of PureMotion HD+?

HMD recently acquired the PureView trademark from Microsoft, but the company is gearing up for even more proprietary features. It filed for trademarks for PureDisplay and "Face Unlock". So, what's PureDisplay? The trademark only makes broad mentions of displays for phones, tablets and computers, HMD is just covering all its bases. Long-time Nokia fans probably remember ClearBlack screens. Those featured a polarizer that reduced glare (the same way that polarized glasses work), which significantly improved sunlight legibility. Or better yet, this could be related to PureMotion HD+...

There's a vivo NEX A with an in-display fingerprint scanner in the works

Vivo may be working on a version of its NEX A smartphone with an in-display fingerprint scanner. The assumption is derived from a model name listed in a certification with the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The model in the listing is the vivo NEX UD A, UD meaning under display fingerprint and it's logical to assume that it's just a NEX A with an in-display fingerprint scanner and no scanner on the back. Usually, benchmark tools listings are used to spot newly and still unreleased devices and perhaps unearth some of the key specs like chipset, RAM, screen, camera, etc. This time around, however, a GFXBench listing tells us that Samsung, or at least someone, is testing the Galaxy S9+ with Android 9.0 Pie. According to the report, the device is running the latest version of Google's mobile OS and an "invalid Android Samsung-ss Edition" software on top. Probably Samsung's Experience UI that's currently unrecognizable by the benchmark app. Anyway, there's nothing else we could gather...

The image raises more questions than gives answers since it says Moto G6 Plus in the About section, but we know very well the 4-month old device has a regular tall screen. If real, the red device with a Moto logo on the fingerprint scanner will be the first for the company with that...
