vivo iQOO 3 Neo 5G to have a 144Hz display

The gaming-oriented iQOO 3 is already with us, its review coming out soon. Its iQOO 3 Neo variant is coming on April 23 and today the company revealed on Weibo some more specs - the handset will come with 144Hz refresh rate screen and UFS 3.1 storage. The teaser published also reveals the Snapdragon 865 chipset of the vivo iQOO 3 Neo, but we already knew that bit. As for those previously leaked screenshots - they were either fake or belonging to a different phone, since they only showed 120Hz refresh rate option. Source (in Chinese) | Via

Top 10 trending phones of week 15

It was another eventful week in the smartphone realm and our trending chart felt the effects of it. We have a somewhat surprising new leader as the upcoming iPhone SE (2020) got people talking a few days ahead of its alleged announcement. Another rumored phone made the podium as the OnePlus 8 Pro is sitting in third. In between we have the Redmi Note 8 Pro as the Galaxy A51 ends just off the top three. Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 rose five positions to claim fifth, while the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra slid down to sixth. Redmi Note 9S took advantage of its market release to reenter the...

OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro - what to expect

The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro have dominated the rumor mill lately. Frankly, we don't really expect anything different, until the April 14 official unveiling event finally takes place on Tuesday. While all the leaks have brought a lot of information on the devices they have also resulted in sort of an overload, making it hard to get the full picture. Hence this more concise round-up of all the things we currently know, or at least think we know about the upcoming phones., up until this point. And mind you, there is actually very little left to uncover. A massive leak from the other day...

Week 15 in review: New Galaxy A phone debut as OnePlus 8 lineup dominates headlines

Despite the still ongoing global crisis, last week was rather busy in the tech realm. Samsung brought the Galaxy A71 5G and A21 as the latest addition to the 2020 Galaxy A lineup. TCL also took the wrapping off of its 10 series of phones, featuring an affordable 5G phone. The trend is pretty clear and hardly unexpected. Still, we can't help but feel pleased that 5G technology is becoming more widely accessible at such a rapid pace. An that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to rumors and leaks on upcoming devices. The industry is still collectively captivated by the OnePlus 8...

The new phones of the week

We're sending away another week, filled with phone announcements for all kinds of markets and price segments. We saw two separate launches by vivo, two new Infinix phones, TCL detailed its 10 lineup that was announced back in January, and Samsung is stepping up in the 5G world of midrangers. The week began with the global variant of vivo V19. It is the first phone of the company with a dual punch-hole in the display for the front-facing shooters and we expect to see the handset at all major markets. Just don't confuse this device with the vivo V19 in Indonesia, which is a rebranded...

Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro 5G in for review

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro 5G has arrived at HQ and we've got some impressions to share. But first, an unboxing. Our unit came with a USB cable and a 65W charger - no other accessories whatsoever. Right off the bat, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro 5G strikes us with its great feel in the hand. Its rear has a matte, almost satin-like finish that is somewhat slippery but lovely to the touch. The phone is substantial at over 200g which you either won't care about or hate, depending on how you normally carry your phone. It makes up for that weight with a quality 6.67-inch Super AMOLED screen of...

Weekly poll: are you using your phone during the quarantine or less?

With quarantine lockdowns around the world, most of our time is spent at home - we work from home and then try to find ways to entertain ourselves at the end of the day. So, we dusted off old laptops, tablets and other gadgets to try and build a home office/entertainment center. And (of course) we have our phones. Which got us wondering - are you using your phone more or less during the quarantine? While no one calls them "mobile phones" anymore, that's their defining characteristic. They move with you, following you outside and even abroad. But that's not happening right now and a...

LG announces Velvet - its new mid-range forerunner

LG chose Easter Sunday to produce one of its trademark announcements, where we learn of a new phone without actually getting to know most of its specs. Only this time we got literally no specs as the company confirmed that LG Velvet will the first smartphone in its portfolio to adopt its new design language. LG Velvet will mark the beginning of a new chapter in the Korean giant's mobile strategy where it will bet on design rather than specs alone to differentiate its products. It promises "tactile elegance" although we get little details as to what that entails. There are no images of the...

Weekly poll results: Nokia 8.3 5G's price may be a dealbreaker

The Nokia 8.3 5G will make a decent mid-ranger if HMD has the decency to price it as one - that's the conclusion from last week's poll. At €600, this phone has to go up against the likes of mainstream flagships like the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro (€560), newcomers like the Realme X50 Pro 5G (€600), various gaming phones and affordable 5G mid-rangers like the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5G (€350). How can the Nokia 8.3 5G fend them off? Unskinned Android One software and a reputation for timely OS updates (even on old phones) is a good start. However, many in the comments called that latter part into...
