Realme XT and C2 get December security patches with new update

Two Realme smartphones have started receiving a new software update in India today. We're talking about the Realme XT and Realme C2, both of which are now getting the December security patches on this occasion. Realme XT It's strange to see Realme being so timely with these, especially for mid-range devices, and fellow BBK stablemate OnePlus lagging behind by a lot. On the other hand, when it comes to big Android updates, the situation is reversed, so we can't help but wonder - can't these two Oppo offshoots learn from each other? Anyway, back to the updates. The XT is getting...

Huawei P40 Pro's periscope telephoto camera to have 10x optical zoom

It's shaping up to be an interesting early 2020 in the mobile world, with the Huawei P40 Pro battling it out with the Samsung Galaxy S11 series. Their looks are apparently going to be incredibly similar, at least on the back. Recently we heard that the S11 will have 5x optical zoom from a periscope telephoto camera, and now famed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who usually covers Apple, has shed some light on what we can expect from the P40 Pro. And that is 10x optical zoom. This is apparently achieved by using both a prism and two mirrors in the camera, compared to just a prism for the P30 Pro's 5x...

Deal: switch to Verizon and get a free iPhone XR plus a $200 prepaid card

Earlier today we told you about a crazy deal that saw Best Buy giving you a Pixel 4 for free if you upgrade an existing line on AT&T. It seems like Verizon was paying attention, because Big Red is now counter-attacking with an incredible deal of its own. If you switch to Verizon from a different carrier, and choose one of the carrier's Unlimited plans, you will receive the iPhone XR for free. That's right, the handset that usually retails for $599.99 is yours for zero dollars. You can buy it either outright, or by choosing the carrier's installment plan. In the latter case, you will...

vivo is launching a new smartphone at MWC 2020 on February 23

vivo has just sent us an invite to an event it's holding at MWC 2020 in Barcelona on February 23. As you can see from the image we've received, there are absolutely no details about what we should expect to be unveiled at that event... that is, unless you take the big "v" to mean a foldable smartphone of some sort. On the other hand, it could just be a stylized version of the "v" in "vivo", so it's all up for debate. Even with no more details or clues, it's important to note that vivo isn't present at MWC very often with such events, so if it's putting on a show we're expecting it to...

Deal: get a free Pixel 4 and Nest Hub if you're on AT&T and upgrade

In the mobile world there are good deals and then there are amazing deals. This is one of the latter. After all, you can't go lower, price-wise, than free. And that's exactly how much you need to pay for a brand new Google Pixel 4. What's more, you're even getting a bonus Nest Hub smart display. How does that sound? Too good to be true? It isn't, but there are (unsurprisingly) a few things to keep in mind. First, in order to get the free Pixel 4, you need to already be an AT&T customer and upgrade an existing line. Second, an activation fee of up to $40 may apply. Third, you will need to...

Motorola's foldable Razr is slightly delayed because of high demand

Foldable smartphones and delays seem to really go hand in hand. Samsung's Galaxy Fold had some design issues, Huawei's Mate X took many more months to reach the market than initially planned, and now it's Razr's turn. Motorola's reimagined Razr that boasts a foldable screen in that iconic form factor was announced last month, and apparently people really love it. At least that's what the company is blaming for a slight delay in its launch. Here's the full statement circulated by Motorola today: Since its announcement in November, the new motorola razr has received unparalleled...

Galaxy Note10 and Note10+ Android 10 update with One UI 2.0 reaches the US

The update to Samsung's One UI 2.0, based on Android 10, has already started rolling out to Galaxy Note10 and Note10+ units in Europe a few days ago, and now it's finally time for the same thing to happen across the pond. The update is reaching units sold in the US, with Verizon seemingly being the first carrier to flip the distribution switch. Multiple reports are coming in from users of both the Note10 and the Note10+ on Verizon that the over-the-air rollout is ongoing. If you are in the US and bought your Note10 or Note10+ at Verizon, it doesn't hurt to manually check for the...

2020 iPhones to have sensor-shift image stabilization

The 2020 iPhones are expected to bring a significant upgrade over its predecessors in 2019 but the latest rumor sounds more like an under the hood improvement. According to industry observers, the new iPhones would use sensor-shift image stabilization technology instead of the conventional stabilization of the optics. iPhones - and smartphones in general - normally rely on optical image stabilization whereas the upcoming phones are expected to come with sensor-shift stabilization where the sensor itself is moving to counteract shakes instead of the optics. It's unclear for now...

The Galaxy S11+ periscope camera will do 5x optical zoom, display to sport minimal bezels

As the supposed February 18 launch of the Samsung Galaxy S11 line comes closer, the rumors and leaks are starting to paint a clearer picture of what to expect. Ice Universe followed up yesterday's news about the telephoto cams on the S11 trio with more clarification on the 48MP periscope unit on the larger S11+ which will allegedly come with 5x optical zoom. We now have a pretty clear picture on the camera front of the S11+ which will debut with the all-new 108MP ISOCELL Bright HM1 sensor with Nonacell pixel binning tech which merges 9 pixels into one, effectively delivering the largest...

We know for sure that the Oppo Find X2 is happening in Q1 of next year and it will be an impressive piece of tech like its predecessor. But no one saw the 50W wireless charging feature coming. The first Find X surprised us with blazing-fast wired charging (among other things) and the successor wants to make a lasting impression with its fast wireless charging, since this is becoming a thing now. The information comes from a reputable leakster on Weibo accompanied by a photo of a circuit board but no details have been given regarding the spy shot, though. Still, we would advise you...

Samsung's Galaxy Buds+ shown in official video, look unchanged

Samsung's upcoming truly-wireless earbuds, called the Galaxy Buds+, are coming soon and it looks like they will retain the same exact design as the current ones. Thanks to XDA-Developers and their tinkering in the code of Samsung's SmartThings we have two short clips showing the Galaxy Buds+ coming out of their charging case. The buds and case appear to look the same as their predecessors and it's unclear what's changed. The current Samsung Galaxy Buds lack support for aptX, which could be one of the changes in their successors. Another rumored feature is active...

SA: Huawei to ship 230 million smartphones this year

According to a new report from Sina Technology News, Huawei CEO Richard Yu announced during an internal meeting that the company was estimated to ship 230 million units by the end of the year, which comes to a close in less than two weeks. Back in October, Huawei revealed that it shipped 200 million units an impressive 64 days earlier in the year than it did in 2018. This was despite the load of missed sales that resulted from the US ban on Huawei. A recent report by Strategy Analytics estimated that Huawei will close in on Samsung (who retains the number one position in number...
