Samsung confirms July 21 launch for Coral Blue Galaxy S8/S8+ in US

For those in the United States waiting for the Coral Blue color variant of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones, here's some good news: the company has confirmed that the model will be available for purchase in the country starting tomorrow (July 21). Among retailers, the new color option will be exclusive to Best Buy - both unlocked as well as carrier variants will be available from the retailer. In addition, Samsung will also be directly selling the model, but only unlocked units. For a limited time, Best Buy will also be offering "up to $400 off the retail price of the...

Asus ZenWatch 2 also getting Android Wear 2.0

It's no secret that Google has experienced significant delays with launching Android Wear 2.0. When Asus promised that the Zenwatch 2 and 3 would get Android Wear 2.0 in early Q2, it took Asus until the beginning of Q3 to finally get the update for the Zentwatch 3, which just came out. Today, the Zenwatch 2 is also getting the update, well, at least the 49mm version. Users on Reddit and Google's product forums have confirmed the update's arrival. There is even a list of instructions on how to force the update if you just can't wait for the update to hit your wearable. It consists...

New high-end Asus smartphone certified for Bluetooth 5.0

A new Asus smartphone was certified for Bluetooth 5.0. This particular smartphone carries the model number ZS551KL, which is likely to be a variant of the Asus Zenfone 4, likely to be a "Deluxe" or "Pro" model, three of which are said to be unveiled next month in Taiwan. The certification was published at Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest Group), the organization responsible for the development and trademarking of the Bluetooth technology. Source: Bluetooth SIG Given that the Zenfone 3 Deluxe carries a very similar model number: ZS550KL (at least in the US), the purported device...

Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) review: Major Junior League

The Galaxy J7 (2017) is the latest annual edition of an already popular phone. The J series has already shaped as a home to some solid midrange propositions and the Galaxy J7 (2017) is meant to spice things up even further. The newcomer is blurring the lines between the J series and the A series just as we thought we had Samsung's portfolio segmentation all figured out.

New Huawei nova 2 plus versions pass through the FCC, should launch outside of China soon

Huawei unveiled the nova 2 and nova 2 plus handsets back in May, but so far these have only been sold in the company's home country of China. That, however, should change soon - at least for the bigger nova 2 plus. That's because the US FCC has recently certified two new versions of this smartphone. While the nova 2 plus sold in China has the model number BAC-AL00, the FCC has given its go-ahead to the BAC-L03 and BAC-L23. These will thus be offered in markets other than China. The BAC-L03 will be a single-SIM version, while the BAC-L23 will come with dual-SIM functionality. As...

Xiaomi Mi 2 and Mi 2S are still used by almost 5 million people

Some people really love to cling to old smartphones - they use each handset for as much as possible, not adhering to the concept that says most replace their devices every couple of years or so. And then there are those who own either the Mi 2 or the Mi 2S from Xiaomi. Possibly breaking all records regarding longevity in the mobile space, these oldies are still used by almost 5 million people. That's definitely a surprising number, but it's as official as it can be, since it comes straight from Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun. On Weibo earlier today, he was wondering what the possible cause for this...

Apple is once again selling Nokia products

Apple is once again directly selling Nokia products through its online store, and they should be available in its physical retail locations soon too. That's not an error - we're obviously not talking about smartphones here, even though more and more Nokia-branded Android handsets are starting to appear. Apple would definitely never offer those, but it is eager to sell you a Nokia connected health device or two. These products, ranging from scales to thermometers to blood pressure monitors, were formerly Withings-branded. Nokia bought Withings last year and has since renamed all of those...

Nokia 8 appears on official website ahead of possible announcement tomorrow

We've already seen the Nokia 8 in not one, but two sets of leaked press renders, and its specs have been outed too. So at this point all that's left for HMD Global to do is make it official already. And that could happen sooner than you may think. Today Nokia's Chinese website put up a promotional image for the yet-unannounced smartphone, as evidenced by the screengrab you can see below. We assume this was a mistake by the webmaster, since HMD still hasn't unveiled the Nokia 8. Yet it's possible that the handset will actually become official tomorrow, if we go by the date shown on...

iOS 10.3.3, watchOS 3.2.3, tvOS 10.2.2, and macOS Sierra 10.12.6 are now available

Today is one of those days in which Apple releases a new update for every single operating system in its stable. We're talking about iOS, watchOS, tvOS, as well as macOS, so regardless of which Apple device you have, an update is likely waiting for you in the relevant section of the OS as you read this. iOS 10.3.3 brings with it bug fixes and performance enhancements, as well as better stability all-round. No new features are in this time around. The story is similar for watchOS 3.2.3, which can be installed on your Apple Watch through the Watch app on iPhone. Unsurprisingly, tvOS...

Samsung OWY phone certified with Bluetooth 5.0

The Bluetooth SIG just certified a Samsung phone called OWY. That's an unusual name for sure, it doesn't fit with the company's usual naming scheme. Still, it's curious because it supports Bluetooth 5.0, the latest version of the wireless protocol. Only very recent chipsets support that protocol - the Snapdragon 835, of course, but also the 660 and 630. Samsung's Exynos 8895 does too. So whatever this phone is, we're looking at a shiny new chipset - either a flagship one or a new (still to reach the market) premium mid-range chip. Snooping around for "Samsung OWY" proved fruitless...

Foxconn joins Apple in legal battle against Qualcomm

The court battle continues for Qualcomm. Now Taiwanese companies Foxconn, Compal, Pegatron, and Wistron are planning to file a lawsuit against the San Diego company in the federal district court. The claim is Qualcomm is charging excessive fees for patent licenses and violates anti-trust laws. All four companies are involved in the manufacturing process of the iPad and the iPhone. Apple is helping the lawsuit by covering all legal expenses. That comes as a response to the legal complaint that Apple is not paying for six key patents it is using. Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf...

FCC certifies the Xiaomi Mi 5X and its 3,000mAh battery

Things are lining up for the Xiaomi Mi 5X launch - the date is set (July 26) and leaks have given us a peek at the specs and the looks of the phone. Perhaps the final hurdle - an FCC certification - has been cleared, so we're all ready for launch. The certificate goes into detail about the battery side of things - 3,000mAh Li-Po power pack charged over a USB-C cable by a 10W adapter (5V @ 2A). That, combined with the rumored Snapdragon 625 chipset, should result in a solid battery life. Even though specs info remains unofficial, people are lining up on Mi.com - 250,000 people have...

Arto Nummela steps down as HMD CEOe, effective immediately

Current CEO of HMD Global Arto Nummela is leaving his position with immediate effect, the company surprisingly announced in a press release. He is parting ways with the board of directors and will be replaced with Florian Seiche, president and co-leader since HMD's beginning. The exit comes as a shock, especially the company is just starting to deliver its products to global markets. HMD is also preparing to launch its first proper flagship - Nokia 8, which has frequented the rumor mill. Sam Chin, chairman of HMD Global's board, commented that the Finn has played a key role in the...

Meizu Pro 7 camera samples show off is B&W photography skills

The small secondary screen on the back of the Meizu Pro 7 is what draws the attention of most people, but Meizu SVP Jeffrey Yang wants to hype up the dual camera as well. He posted four camera samples as a teaser, three of them are in Black & White and one is color. All four show scenes with tricky lighting conditions, though. Here are the four shots. Unfortunately, their EXIF info has been stripped, so all we can tell about the camera is that it has 12MP resolution. Meizu Pro 7 camera samples We do know that the screen on the back will let you snap selfies with the main...

New reports says Samsung is not interested in smart speakers

New reports have surfaced, claiming that Samsung is not working on a smart speaker as WSJ's sources claimed. Bixby - the digital assistant meant to be the brains of the speaker - only just launched in the US after it finally learned English. "Samsung currently does not view Al speakers as marketable, as the global market is already dominated by unbeatable Amazon and the Korean market is too small to make profits," an unnamed source from the company told The Korea Herald. Amazon's Echo speaker leads the pack with a 70% market share and Google's Home is on the rise. Both companies...

China will get an Oppo A77 with a Snapdragon 625, redesigned back

Back in May, Oppo announced the A77 for the Taiwanese and Malaysian markets with an Mediatek chipset inside but it seems there is another version coming now. Oppo has the A77 listed on its Chinese website with a Snapdragon 625 instead of the Mediatek chip and a slightly different camera lens design on the back. The rest of the specs remain unchanged. There's a 5.5" 1080p LCD on the front, 4GB of RAM with 64GB of built-in storage and a duo of 13MP back and 16MP front cameras. This is likely the Oppo A77 for the Chinese market and will come in Gold, Rose Gold and Black for the...

New render of a Galaxy Note8 case shows an expansive top bezel

We already saw the Galaxy Note8 design by a case maker (Olixar)... or we thought we did. Now another case maker (Nillkin) has released renders of its Note8 case and the top bezel seems much bigger. Samsung's Infinite Display design dictates that the sides of the screen are curved, eliminating the bezel almost entirely, and that is still the case. However, the top and bottom bezels shrunk as well now that the fingerprint reader is on the back and the Android keys are on screen. So, did the case maker get it wrong in the render? Or does the Samsung Galaxy Note8 have something extra on...

It will include sports highlights, news, YouTube trending videos and stories to read. It will also have flight info, weather updates, recipes and upcoming events in the calendar in a separate tab. When a card seems irrelevant, you can...

Bixby Voice officially starts rolling out to Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ in US

After an Early Access Program that Samsung launched last month, the public roll out of Bixby Voice has now begun in the United States. Effectively, that means Bixby now offers full voice capabilities for US English. That's definitely good news for Galaxy S8/S8+ users in the country, who can now start using Bixby's voice service immediately - all you have to do is to make sure that the application is updated to the latest software version. "At launch, Bixby will be fully integrated across core Samsung apps, so almost anything you could do with touch or typing, you can now do with...

It's also available to pre-order in Switzerland. The listing shown above reveals that sales for the variant will begin August 28 onwards. As for pricing, the Honor 9 Premium carries a tag of CHF 499 (around $520 or €450)...

Motorola Moto Z starts getting Android 7.1.1 update

Motorola has started pushing out a new update to its Moto Z smartphone. Currently hitting units in Hong Kong and Indonesia, the update brings along Android Nougat version 7.1.1. The update also includes Duo video calling app as well as Android security fixes for July. Given the roll out has just begun, it might take time for the update notification to pop up on your handset's screen. Via 1 2

Xiaomi Mi 5X now leaks in renders

The Xiaomi Mi 5X - which is set to be officially unveiled on July 26, and has already managed to catch the fancy of a lot of people in the company's home country of China - has now leaked in press renders. The leaked images not only reveal different color options, but also clearly show both front and back of the device, yet-again confirming a dual rear-camera setup as well as rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. As far as specs are concerned, the handset is expected to be powered by Snapdragon 625 chipset and sport a 5.5-inch 1080p screen. RAM should be 4GB. As for pricing, the...
