The update to Android 7.0 Nougat started rolling out to the HTC One A9 units sold in the US a bit more than a couple of months ago. And now it's finally time for the new OS version to make it to One A9 devices that were purchased in Europe. The rollout is already on its way, so if you have a One A9 and got it from Europe (unlocked or from a carrier, it doesn't matter) perhaps now's a good time to manually check for updates, if you haven't received a notification about the situation. Once you download and install the update, you will be on software version 2.17.401.2, Android 7.0,...

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (S625) review: Take Note!
After getting to know Xiaomi's Redmi Note 4 with Helio X20, it's time to meet the Snapdragon 625 edition. It promises better battery efficiency and thermal control thanks to the more advanced manufacturing process. But these improvements may have cost the Note 4 some of its performance punch, and we will duly explore this possibility.
Microsoft Surface Book 2 reportedly not launching this spring
Not long ago a report purportedly originating at unnamed sources from the upstream supply chain told us that the Microsoft Surface Book 2 laptop was already in production. It was supposed to become official at a spring event taking place either this month or in April. Yet today a new rumor on the matter comes to basically contradict that, saying that Microsoft will not, in fact, unveil the Surface Book 2 at its spring event - which apparently is still on track to take place, even if press invites haven't been sent until now. So the event is going to happen, but the Surface Book 2...
Cortana for Android now lets you interact with it on the lock screen
Cortana for Android arrived onto a lock screen near you starting in January. However, that functionality has been in beta up until today. From now on, if you have the Cortana app on Android, you're able to interact with the virtual assistant straight from your lock screen, without needing to unlock your phone. You get a list of things that Cortana thinks are important to you, only a swipe away. What's more, though, you can ask the assistant questions or have it set reminders - all from the lock screen, all without unlocking. Obviously, it will deliver the answers you seek in a nice...
Apple releases macOS 10.12.4 and tvOS 10.2
Along with iOS and watchOS, Apple also released updates for macOS and tvOS. macOS 10.12.4 adds Night Shift, which automatically cuts down the blue light from the display at night to reduce the strain on your eyes. You can find the Night Shift option under the Display settings, where you can customize the timings or set it to run between sunset to sunrise, and also control the intensity of the effect. The update also adds Siri support for Cricket scores for IPL and ICC, among other minor changes and improvements. The tvOS update is even smaller. tvOS 10.1 brings...
Moto X (2017) breaks cover with metal body, SD625, dual rear camera setup
That alleged Moto X (2017) that leaked twice in December of last year actually turned out to be the Moto G5 Plus, which got official at MWC last month. However, Motorola is still apparently working on a new Moto X. At least if you choose to believe the latest leaked images which you can see below. These are said to depict the Moto X (2017), and that information comes from a pretty solid leaker of all things Moto-related. Of course, you shouldn't take this for granted even so. As you can see, the purported 2017 edition of the Moto X comes with a full metal body (complete with necessary...
Apple releases iOS 10.3 and watchOS 3.2
Apple has released the final stable build of iOS 10.3 and watchOS 3.2. The updates are now available for download on compatible iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple Watch devices through OTA updates and also iTunes in case of iOS. We had outlined the changes in one of our older posts before but to summarize it again, the 10.3 comes with some notable user facing as well as under the hood improvements. One example of the former is the option to find AirPods under the Find My iPhone app, that plays a sound to help you locate your lost AirPods as well shows their last location on a...
Unlocked US Galaxy S7 receives March security update, still no Nougat
A couple of weeks ago Samsung promised that it would treat unlocked Galaxy S7 units sold in the US better than it had up until that point, when it comes to software updates. In fact, the company committed to releasing monthly security patches for those models, and claimed the March update was on its way. This is now starting to reach unlocked S7 units bought in the US, finally. Applying the update will take your device to the March 1 security patch level, while your baseband version will be G930UUES4AQC1. So that's great, seeing Samsung already keeping its promise. There is a...
Android co-founder's upcoming bezelless smartphone gets photographed
Back in January a report gave us some details about Andy Rubin's latest venture, which involves a company working on a high-end, bezelless smartphone. Andy Rubin, as you may know, is a co-founder of Android, and he was in charge of the OS at Google until 2013. Rubin left the search giant a year later, and recently created a new company called Essential Products. This will be the maker of that top of the line handset that should be out around the middle of the year. And what you see below is the first photo showing it. The image was shared by Andy Rubin himself, in an attempt to drum...
Facebook Messenger gets live location sharing too
Facebook is usually quick to copy features from its various competitors if it deems them interesting enough, but we normally see stuff from the likes of Snapchat making it into the social network's offerings. This time Facebook Messenger has decided to borrow a recently announced (and not even fully rolled out yet) feature from Google Maps - live location sharing. Google unveiled its interpretation last week, and today Facebook is announcing a very similar thing for Messenger. In a nutshell, this lets you allow the contacts you choose to see your live location on a map for up to one hour....
Samsung confirms that it will offer refurbished Galaxy Note7 units
Last month a report from South Korea claimed that Samsung was getting ready to offer refurbished Galaxy Note7 units this summer, following last year's recalls. Today this has been confirmed by the company itself, through a news release that focuses on how it's going to "recycle" the giant pile of returned Note7 units that it has in its possession. The first step in that process is refurbishing units or renting them (whatever that may mean). The second step involves detaching salvageable components from the phones, in order to reuse them. And third, if all else fails, "processes such...
Analysts: Samsung's sales of high-end phones at their lowest levels yet
After the Note7 failed, it seemed that Samsung Electronics recovered just fine, it even posted a higher operating profit for 2016 than the year before. However, analysts at Hana Financial Investment found that the real damage is buried in the details. Overall profits may have gone up, but profits from high-end devices - Galaxy S and Note - fell to their lowest levels yet, 29%. It's the first time this number has been below 30% - for comparison, they were below 40% in 2015. To be fair, the decline started long before the Note7. Profits from flagships were at their peak - a whopping 75% -...
Samsung Galaxy S8 to use Sony IMX333 camera
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are just two days away but there are still uncertainties to be unearthed. One such puzzle piece is the camera - we know it's a 12MP single camera but not much else. The latest rumor suggests the Galaxy star duo will premiere a new Sony IMX330 sensor - a unit that's not even featured on Sony's website. But that's it - the rumor gives only a name and nothing else. Next up in S8-related news is the Quick Launch feature which allows you to quickly open up the camera of a locked Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge by quickly pressing the home button twice. Samsung has...
First image of Honor Note 9 shows a huge phablet
A new image shows what could be the Honor Note 9 - successor to the 6.6" behemoth of a phone Honor Note 8. The picture shows a very large phone with the Honor badge and a new dual camera. The Honor Note 8 has a single 13MP camera on the back. There's not much else to go on here. The Note 9 is tipped to have a Kirin 960 chipset like the Huawei Mate 9 and P10. Judging by the September release of the Honor Note 8 a successor is likely to wait a few more months before making its debut. Source
Samsung Galaxy S8: what we are yet to find out
We gathered up all that we think we know about the Galaxy S8 pair, now let's talk about the things that the rumor mill did not mention. Of course, everything so far is in the realm of rumors, but there are things that went completely unmentioned. Even basic stuff like storage - it seems that 64GB could be the base option, but we haven't heard a word about a microSD slot either way. And what happened to UFS/microSD hybrid card slots anyway? Also, will Samsung offer a 128GB version? In the past 128GB-packing Galaxy S models didn't sell well since all but the S6 had expandable storage....

Galaxy S8 to bring new version of Samsung's signature ringtone
Samsung has joined forces with Grammy Award winner Jacob Collier for a new version of its recognizable tune Over the Horizon. In its 2017 version the ringtone sounds the richest you've ever heard. What makes Samsung's tune unique is that it's always evolving each year. Over the Horizon's six notes are used within different musical genres making the ringtone sound familiar but with a different twist every time. In his version Jacob Collier is full of different layers with a mix of contemporary jazz, pop and dance. In his rendition Collier uses 16 instruments including drums, a bass...
Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ visit AnTuTu, show 64GB storage
The AnTuTu team knows what's up - they occasionally scour their database for results for unreleased phones and sometimes they hit pay dirt. In this case it's the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+, both the Snapdragon 835 and Exynos 8895 versions. Now, they only posted specifications rather than benchmark results. We already have an idea of what to expect from the S835 and there's suspicion that the Exynos model will be faster. Anyway, back to AnTuTu. Note the screen resolution. One unit reported 1,080 x 1,920px while others show 1,080 x 2,220px. No, Samsung hasn't gone back to a...

Samsung Galaxy S8: what we know so far
By now the upcoming Galaxy S8 has leaked so much that there's little left that we do not know. But all those rumors are a bit of a mess, so a few days ahead of the official unveiling, we thought it would be helpful to make a clear summary of what's to come. 2 versions There's no more "edge", both versions will have a dual-curved screen. The difference in size remains 0.4" between them, but the new models have bigger screens - 5.8" on the "small" Galaxy S8 and 6.2" on the bigger Galaxy S8+. No bezels The Super AMOLED screen has grown wider - 18.5:9 aspect ratio instead of 16:9....

Honor 6X spotted in new Pink and Blue color options
Launched back in October last year, the Huawei Honor 6X currently comes in three color options: Gray, Gold, and Silver. That, however, may change soon as two new color options for the device have been spotted: Pink and Blue. These new models will first be launched in China, and the company might bring them to other major markets later on. Sadly, an exact launch date isn't yet known. Via
Motorola Moto Z Droid/ Z Force Droid getting March security patch
A new update has started hitting the Motorola Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Force Droid smartphones in the US. The update arrives as software version NCLS25.86-11-4-6-8, and brings along Android security fixes for the month of March. Aside from bringing the latest security patch, the update - which, needless to say, is hitting units on Verizon's network - is also said to include some performance-related enhancements as well as usual bug fixes. As is usually the case with OTA roll outs, it may take time for the update to hit your device. Meanwhile, if you feel impatient, you can manually...

Huawei P9 That's up 2 million from the 10 million figure the Chinese manufacturer announced back in December last year. In addition to revealing the new milestone, the CEO said they expect the P10 and P10 Plus to cross the 10 million milestone as well. Via

Amazon also has the Dual SIM variant listed, but it's currently unavailable. Source 1 2 | Via
HTC One (M8) on T-Mobile gets Nougat update
T-Mobile has started pushing out a new update to HTC One (M8) units on its network. The update brings Android Nougat OS (version 7.0) to the device that was launched way back in 2014. The Nougat update for the phone comes nearly a year after the magenta carrier started pushing out the Marshmallow update. Given that the roll out has just begun, it may take time for the update notification to pop up on your phone's screen. Meanwhile, if you feel impatient, you can manually check for the update by heading to your handset's Settings menu. Source | Via

Top 10 trending phones of week 12
Yet another week is behind us and we look back at what phones gathered the most interest over the past seven days. And there were plenty of changes with two new entries occupying the first two spots. The Xiaomi Redmi 4a went from zero to hero in just a few days taking the first spot just a few days after it finally escaped China and started breaking sales records. In India the initial batch of 250,000 thousand units went away in just four minutes, so it's no surprise that its popularity skyrocketed. In second place we find the Oppo F3 Plus - the next generation selfie expert just went...
Weekly poll: Is 930 a fair price for the Galaxy S8?
The Samsung Galaxy S8 was always expected to be pricey, but the latest rumor pushed the expected price even higher - 830 for the S8 and 930 for the Galaxy S8+. Is that a fair price? The Galaxy S8 duo will have exclusivity on the Snapdragon 835 chipset at launch, the major competition stuck with S821 or has its own chips (e.g. Kirin 960). Plus, a new generation of Super AMOLED is bound to bring improvements. Not to mention it will be the only one on the screen to combine minimalist bezels with curved edges (the LG G6 screen is flat). Then there are rumored enhancements to the camera,...
Counterclockwise: HTC HD2 and friends run any OS under the sun
Smartphones have progressed by leaps and bounds, yet they are far behind the humble PC in some respects. Modular phones have attempted to bring upgradability, but few phones seriously considered giving you freedom of choice when it comes to the operating system. The HTC HD2 is legendary in that respect. It launched in 2009 with Windows Mobile 6.5, heavily modded by HTC. Since then it has run Windows Phone 7, Windows Phone 8, Android, Microsoft's Android, Windows RT, Firefox OS, webOS, MeeGo, Tizen... iOS is probably the only mobile platform that eluded the fabled HD2. There are some...
Sunday Q&A - Week 12
Hello and welcome to the Week 12 edition of our Sunday Q&A! This week we discuss our battery test once again, fingerprint sensors and why we don't have more scores on the site. Webster: Hi, I like your site for comparing phones, but would it be possible for you guys to list an IR blaster as a feature? This is one of the major points I look at when choosing a phone. Hi, Webster. We are, in fact listing IR ports in our specs database - if you look at a phone that has it like the Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus, you'll see a line for that. However, since it's a rather niche feature we chose to omit...
Week 12 in review: Apple deliver red iPhone 7, Galaxy S8 rumors go wild
Week 12 of the year is now on the edge of the door and it's time to take a quick look back and see which news was the most interesting to read. This week was more interesting than the last with news like the two announcements of the Oppo F3 selfie expert, Google's release of the Android O Developer preview and Apple's release of a Red iPhone, new cheaper iPad and a storage increase to the small iPhone SE. But nevertheless the exhaustive Samsung Galaxy S8 leaks asserted their dominance over tech news once again. The Galaxy S8 takes up 12 slots out of the 30 articles we've selected...
Weekly poll results: LG G6 shines bright in fans' eyes
Voters in our weekly poll showed strong interest in the LG G6, now it's up to LG to turn the hype and early launch into sales. T-Mobile already started shipping pre-ordered units and an unlocked US version is on the way. It's already on sale in Malaysia and coming soon to Canada. Europe will have to wait until late April. Many commenters were quite happy with the performance of the G6 and so were we. Some brought up the fact that the 2017 flagship uses some 2016 components, but LG will not be alone in this while certain components are in short supply (notably the Snapdragon 835). Some...

Huawei P10 Plus: random thoughts
We've been spending quality time with the Huawei P10 Plus lately. Ever since it arrived at the office excitement has been in the air. The team is already hard at work on the in-depth review, but while you are looking forward to that, we though we might take the time to share some thoughts on the P10 Plus. Just like its little sibling, the P10 Plus is a looker and simply has a way of luring you in. It also ties in together well and the visual overhaul of EMUI seems to be a natural extension of said effort on the software side of things. We definitely like this new refined...
Google fixes Pixel Bluetooth bug with server-side update
Some Google Pixel users have been complaining about a bug with their devices where the Bluetooth would switch off on its own and if you switched it back on it could switch off again. Last month, Google had announced that they are aware of the issue and had fixed it, and that it will be rolled out to the device shortly. Google confirmed today that it has finished putting the fix in place and that affected devices should be working now properly. Moreover, there is no update that needs to be installed by the user and the fix is installed automatically. Google confirmed that it is a...
The Xiaomi Mi 6 might have a bigger Plus variant: full specs sheets leak online
The Xiaomi Mi 6 has been frequenting the rumor mill for quite some time now, but this is only the second time we are hearing of a Plus variant. It popped up in a new specs sheet leak, with at least one pretty interesting features to its name - a dual-camera setup. The specs summary also mentions a 5.7-inch display, putting the alleged Mi 6 Plus squarely in phablet territory. However, despite growing in size, the panel sticks with 1080p resolution - definitely the more endurance-friendly option, if nothing else. The source also suggests all Plus units will be equipped with 6GB or...
Working Samsung Galaxy S8+ unit spotted in the wild
We're definitely on a row today, even by Galaxy S8 leak standard. First a coral blue dye shot, then a size comparison and an impressively extensive list of official accessories and prices. So, once again from the top, we guess - another set of leaked shots of the Samsung Galaxy S8+ has surfaced online. Still, you might want to hold up for a bit, before you continue on your way this time around, as these are probably the most detailed and believable shots of the 6.2-inch plablet to date. The stills come from Mexico, as further proven by the handset's UI language of choice. It looks...
