Microsoft's next Surface event is on October 2

The fall events from the big tech companies are lining up. Apple will hold its grand unveiling of new iPhones, smartwatches, and maybe even iPads next week, on September 12. Google is announcing new Pixels on October 9. And Microsoft has just scheduled its own hardware event for October 2, at 4 PM local time in New York City. As you can see, the invite itself doesn't give anything away, but expect to see at least some updates to its current roster of Surface devices, if not also new ones being introduced. Key possibilities include Surface Laptop and Surface Studio refreshes, and...

Apple won the pre-trial motions against Qualcomm

The Qualcomm-Apple lawsuit regarding patent infringements have been set in motion with the pre-trial hearing concluding. The pre-trial aims to rule what is and what isn't allowed to be used in court for evidence. And it's advantage Apple after the Qualcomm legal team messed up. Qualcomm chose not to argue Apple's claims that the Cupertino-based firm has not infringed some of the patents involved in the case and that some of the others are invalid. Even the judge made that clear and outlined Qualcomm's mistakes. The chip maker then changed its mind and wanted to present the needed...

AnTuTu: 1080p is Android's most popular resolution, octa-core the top CPU

AnTuTu posted some interesting stats for the devices that have run its benchmark. That means that those are hardly representative of the whole Android market, but should paint an accurate picture of what smartphone enthusiasts use. The first category is screen resolution and it's 1080p all around. 24.37% of phones use a Full HD 16:9 panel, followed by 17.19% with the so-called FHD+ screens. Another 16.09% go to even taller 1080 x 2248 and 1080 x 2280 pixel displays. A staggering 73.5% of the Android smartphones that have run the AnTuTu benchmark sport an octa-core chipset...

Deal: Unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note9 for $866

Samsung announced the Galaxy Note9 back on August 23. Initially, the 6/128 GB phone was priced at $999 in the United States, while the 8/512 GB variant was $1,250. The offer covers all four color options - Metallic Copper, Midnight Black, Lavender Purple, and Ocean Blue that has a yellow S Pen. The listing reveals that 164 units, or over 84% in total, were ordered, meaning...

Cases for the 6.1-inch and 6.5-inch 2018 iPhones already on sale

A couple of Speck cases for the upcoming 6.1" iPhone (alleged to be called iPhone 9) and 6.5" flagship (refered to as iPhone Xs Max) have appeared at Walmart and a Reddit user who spotted them quickly snapped a few photos and shared them with us. The first two images show the case made for the 6.1-inch iPhone in its retail box as well as compared for size with the current 5.8-inch iPhone X. And while the camera cutout would seem to suggest a dual camera, it's likely made to accommodate a single camera lens and an LED flash. Apple iPhone 9 6.1-inch case The next two images...

Oppo F9/F9 Pro review

The Oppo F9/F9 Pro could be remembered for many things, but the waterdrop cutout is the feature that will make it to the history books. We've probably reached the peak in the notch race and we are more than happy to finally see a change in this controversial concept.

Four Huawei phones get delisted from 3DMark

Reports about Huawei cheating on their benchmark results appeared earlier this week. Anandtech spoke to a company official, who admitted to the offense and now the manufacturer is already facing repercussions. UL, the company behind the gaming 3DMark benchmark, has just announced that four Huawei smartphones are getting delisted after confirming a breach of their rules - Huawei P20 Pro, Huawei nova 3, Huawei Honor Play, and Huawei P20. According to UL, the first three phones were tested both with the public version of 3DMark, freely available at Google Play, and a private that is...

Huawei Mate 20 Pro leaks again, showing curved screen and big notch

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro has made yet another public appearance, this time showing off its display and notch. The device was strapped in an anti-leak case to protect its design from prying eyes but the large notch and the curved edges are clearly visible. So far rumors and leaks have pointed to a Huawei Mate 20 with a waterdrop notch and a flat screen and a Mate 20 Pro with a large notch (likely housing face scanning tech) and curved edges (like on flagship Samsung Galaxies). Huawei Mate 20 Pro This information was substantiated yesterday when the different screen resolutions...

Oppo R17 goes on sale as the Find X hits Europe

Oppo announced the Oppo R17 and R17 Pro last month with plenty of features to look forward to but while we are still waiting on the Pro version to arrive, the standard R17 is now available in China. Oppo R17 Prices are as expected - the standard 6GB/128GB memory variant goes for CNY 3,199 ($468) while the 8GB/128GB model sells for CNY 3,499 ($512). There's also a gradient fog alteration of the latter with a cooler paintjob that will set you back CNY 3,599 ($527). The Pro version is still expected to ship sometime in mid-October. Meanwhile, Oppo also had a little something...

Razer Phone 2 arrives on Geekbench with 8 GB RAM and SD845

China Joy 2018 took place in August and plenty of tech CEOs held keynotes. А Razer official said at the conference to expect Phone 2 in December, and it has just appeared on Geekbench, revealing some of its specs. The phone was benchmarked with 8 GB RAM and Snapdragon 845 chipset, contradicting previous reports by Chinese media that the device might have the upcoming 855 SoC. Both the single-core and multi-core results are a bit lower than other competitors reached, but the phone is still in development, so reading too much in those numbers would be a mistake. Although the...

HMD Global to bring the Nokia 5.1 Plus in Taiwan

Nokia's Taiwanese division just posted a teaser of a new phone on its Facebook page. The device appears to be quite different from the rest of the Nokia smartphones, but local sources suggest the event is going to be about the Nokia 5.1 Plus. There's no actual release date for now but it's happening some time in September. And if the press render doesn't look like the Nokia 5.1 Plus to you, don't worry, you are not alone. We think it's just a generic render of a smartphone - just look at that slim chin on the bottom of the screen - most of the Nokia phones have the Nokia branding...

The Nokia 6.1 Plus loses notch toggle because of Google

As most of you know, the Nokia X6 stepped outside of China as the Nokia 6.1 Plus with stock Android 8.1 Oreo running out of the box and it was the first HMD Global smartphone with a notch. Some could live with the notched look, but most chose to save themselves the eyesore and used the option that lets you hide it. Unfortunately, the latest August security patch removed the toggle. Of course, that sparked the customer's dissatisfaction in the Nokia forums and a staff member said that Google forced them to do so without giving any further explanation. We can only assume why Google...
