Nintendo will reportedly launch updated Switch console with larger Samsung OLED screen

An interesting report comes from Bloomberg. Outside of supplying OLED display panels to many smartphone OEMS for both standard and (in the future) folding displays, Samsung will supply a 7-inch panel to Nintendo for a new Switch gaming console. The report says that Samsung Display Co. will begin mass producing OLED panels for an upcoming Nintendo Switch refresh model, one that will come with a larger screen (the current Switch model has a 6.2-inch 16:9 720p display – the Switch Lite has a 5.5-inch panel)). According to the anonymous sources, Samsung will begin production of these panels in...

Android 12 Developer Preview 1.1 is out with bug fixes

Today Google has released the second build of its Android 12 Developer Preview. The initial one went out last month, and now the company is releasing Android 12 Developer Preview 1.1. As the minor version number incrementation implies, this is not a build that brings new features, instead it's all about bug fixes. Additionally, it incorporates the March security patches. The issues that have been fixed include intermittent disconnections from Wi-Fi even when the signal was strong, taking a screenshot from the lock screen resulting in an error, partial wake locks that caused battery...

AMD announces the Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card

AMD today announced the Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card. The 6700 XT is based on the same RDNA2 architecture as the other RX 6000-series graphics cards but it is the cheapest model in the series so far, starting at $479. The 6700 XT has a new, smaller GPU than the one on the other three 6000-series cards. This GPU has 40 compute units, 64 ROPs, 160 texture units, and 2560 stream processors. One of the interesting things about the 6700 XT is the aggressive clock speed; the average clock speed under load or 'Game Frequency' as AMD likes to call it is a rather high 2424MHz. This gives...

vivo S9 5G and S9e 5G announced with familiar design and upgraded internals

Vivo has just announced the S9 5G and S9e 5G - direct successors to the vivo S7 with an identical design but with upgraded hardware inside. The hardware is now capable of 5G connectivity, hence the names. And as you've probably guessed, the S9e is a toned-down version of the standard S9. Let's start with the S9 5G. It employs a MediaTek Dimensity 1100 chipset based on the 6nm node and is paired with either 8GB/128GB memory or 12GB/256GB. The display is still AMOLED with a 6.44-inch diagonal and a notch for the front-facing camera. The panel supports HDR10+ and offers an FHD+ resolution...

DxOMark rates the OnePlus 8T's camera as average

It's been a while since the OnePlus 8T was released. In fact, we are just a few days away from the OnePlus 9-series launch event. Still, DxOMark did an in-depth camera review of the OnePlus 8T to see how it stacks against the competition. The overall score of 111 points puts the device on par with the Google Pixel 4a and the rather old Huawei Mate 20 Pro. And expectedly, the overall camera performance is far from stellar. Reviewers even call the phone a "refreshed midranger". Maybe because the camera experience is typical for a mid-range handset. The main issues with the phone's camera...

Samsung Galaxy A82 5G pops up on Geekbench with Snapdragon 855+

Over a month ago, we had the first piece of information regarding Samsung Galaxy A80's successor. Other than the model number and the fact that it will feature a quirky camera module with a rotating mechanism, there was nothing else in the report. Now, we have the chipset, thanks to a couple of Geekbench listings. The model number SM-A826S helped us identify the handset as the Galaxy A82 5G and to our surprise, it will feature the Snapdragon 855+ SoC launched in late 2018. The configuration that was tested also runs Android 11 out of the box and is equipped with 6GB of RAM. We...

Realme 8 specs revealed by brand CEO

Realme has unveiled its 108 MP camera technology on March 2, and the company revealed it will come with the Realme 8 Pro. Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite recently starred in a couple of hands-on photos revealing the design but information about specs has been rather scarce. An early rumor suggested that the Mi 11 Lite will feature a brand new Qualcomm SoC, but the Google Play Console listing says otherwise. A screenshot from the Google Play Console listing The listing reveals the code name "renoir" as well as the model number M2101K9G. The chipset's model number coincides with the Snapdragon 765G and so do the core configuration and clocks. Memory configurations will surely vary but an 8GB RAM variant will likely...

MediaTek announces the MT9638, a 4K-capable TV SoC

MediaTek may be known mostly for its smartphone SoCs but the company is doing chips for all kinds of electronics. Today, the Taiwanese-based maker announces its MT9638 chipset for 4K TVs. But 4K is far from being the only neat feature. The chipset can also do a bunch of AI-powered stuff like super resolution, picture quality and voice assistant. The infamous MEMC feature is also on board but the variable refresh rate is arguably the most important feature for gamers. A quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 CPU is running the show at up to 1.5GHz. Aside from the standard CPU, there's also a...

Samsung is indeed working on a Wear OS smartwatch, new evidence suggest

A couple of weeks ago, a renowned Samsung tipster said that Samsung is working on a Wear OS-powered smartwatch and will be ditching Tizen OS. And while we can't say that the latter is for sure, the former seems to be further backed by stronger evidence. In a Galaxy S20 kernel source code teardown, an XDA developer found that there's a device codenamed "Merlot" and it's associated with Google's Wear OS. The device has been mentioned even alongside the already released Galaxy Watch3 with code name "Noblesse". As of now, information is pretty scarce, but we hope to see some more...

Oppo Reno5 F to arrive as A94 and F19 in different markets

Oppo's Kenya branch teased the Reno5 F last week with a 48MP primary camera, 4,310 mAh battery, and 30W charging. Now we learn the smartphone will arrive with two other names in different markets. We wonder why Oppo decided to name the 5G variant F19...

vivo iQOO Neo5 shines in live photos, will have three cameras, 120 Hz display

A new gaming phone from vivo’s iQOO branch will arrive on March 16, and today we got to see a couple of live photos of the device. We’re talking about the vivo iQOO Neo5 that apparently will have three cameras on the back and one on the front behind a punch hole. All three cameras appear to be standard, with no periscope shooter in sight. However, this is expected, since the Neo lineup is an affordable flagship within the iQOO universe and a sophisticated telephoto camera is not how you keep the price low. The front of the phone will be a flat OLED panel, as evident by the...
