Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime receives Android 9 Pie update with One UI

Samsung has today started rolling out the update to Android 9 Pie for the Galaxy On7 Prime smartphones sold in India. The On7 Prime was launched in the subcontinent back in January of 2018, but it's actually known elsewhere as the Galaxy J7 Prime, and was first released in September 2016. As such, it's an incredibly surprising thing for Samsung to update this budget phone to Pie, since it came to the market with Marshmallow. Anyway, the update is arriving over-the-air as a 1GB download, and it includes the May 2019 security patch level - just to add to the amazingness of this entire...

Redmi flagship will have an in-display fingerprint sensor, great battery life

A lot of phones leak, so some companies have recently started to compete with those by drip feeding us official information about upcoming devices. Redmi GM Lu Weibing, for example, is very active on Chinese social network Weibo, and has already confirmed a few key details about the brand's first ever flagship handset. Today is no different, and in keeping with its other top of the line specs, the Redmi flagship will also come with an in-display fingerprint sensor. Additionally, Lu Weibing said the phone will get great battery life, but hasn't actually confirmed a capacity for the cell....

Oppo F11 Pro Avengers Edition Hands-on

Limited edition phones are meant to commemorate special occasions. It's a chance to offer consumers a unique take on the rectangular slabs we call smartphones. We've seen several automotive-themed partnerships in the past, as well as some movie-inspired collaborations. Last year OnePlus brought an Avengers Infinity War Edition OnePlus 6 and this year Oppo is treating us to the End Game version with its F11 Pro. Before we delve deeper, let's get the obvious stuff out the way. The Oppo F11 Pro Avengers Edition is just a spec'd out, better looking F11 Pro. You're getting the top of the...

Xiaomi Mi 9 SE gets Moon mode in latest MIUI update

For some odd reason taking pictures of the moon with a smartphone is a thing. Huawei was the first to start this moon race with the P30 Pro and Xiaomi was quick on its heels by adding the feature to its flagship Mi 9. After pondering with moon photography with the flagship Mi 9, it seems the more affordable Mi 9 SE is next in line for a dedicated moon mode with the latest MIUI update. If you wanna test out the feature, you'll need to head over the camera app on your Mi 9 or Mi 9 SE and slide to the AI mode. Then adjust the zoom to 4x and you should see a Moon mode toggle appear....

Exclusive: more Honor 20 Pro promo images, this time with more fashion

The same tipster that sent us the Honor 20 Pro images has delivered another batch. Like last time, these are artsy promo images, which seems to the theme of the promo campaign. Honor 20 Pro promo images Note that the images are obviously non-final - the rendering of the phone is broken, especially around the camera. It appears that the images were poorly converted vector graphics so the colors are not accurate. Anyway, check out the last two images - they feature the trademark eyeball of Mishka NYC, a streetware company. You can also see the Death Adder bear. Note...

Nokia 8.1 gets April security patch in new update

HDM is issuing a new firmware update to the Nokia 8.1 in India and Poland (and possibly elsewhere), which brings stability improvements, user interface enhancements and the security patch for April. Nokia 8.2 system update, The Nokia 8.1 was released back in December as the global variant of the China-bound Nokia X7. Xiaomi teases a triple camera smartphone for India

Xiaomi just teased a new phone with a triple-camera setup on its Indian community forum. The image shows single, dual and triple cameras but it would be strange if Xiaomi is even mentioning the latter option if it's not the one it's releasing. Nothing else has been disclosed in the forum post, but we have our suspicion of some of the specs. Going by the the report from yesterday, which claims that Xiaomi is readying three smartphones with Snapdragon 7XX, this one could be the so-called Pyxis. And if we look back even further, the company's VP teased a handset last month with...

Putting the Pie in pie chart: Android 9 now on over 10% of devices

It's been months since Google updated the Android version distribution numbers, the last one was in October. Maybe it was waiting until it had good news to share and now it does - Android 9 Pie is on more than 10% of phones. For comparison, Android Oreo was announced in August 2017 and took until July 2018 to crack 10% (actually, it was at 12.1% that month). Pie was launched in August 2018 and it crossed the 10% mark two months earlier. Speaking of Android Oreo (8.0 and 8.1), it also grew. It's now on on over 28% of phones. The iPhone XR was the top seller for Apple in Q1 and in Q2, so its successor is highly anticipated. The first 3D renders have surfaced and they show a design that's a 50:50 mix of old and new. 2.5 billion devices are now running Android

During Google's I/O developer conference, Android's senior director Stephanie Cuthbertson announced that the mobile OS is running on 2.5 billion devices worldwide - a big milestone for the company. That's about ten years after the first release of Android. However, keep in mind that the numbers are based on Google Play Store statistics and it doesn't take into account non-Google Play Store devices such as China's Android devices without Google Play Services enabled. So in reality, a lot more mobile devices are running Android right now. The announcement was made during the launch of...

Huawei P smart Z unveiled: 6.59" screen and a pop-up camera on a budget

The Huawei P smart Z is the first phone from the company to sport a pop-up selfie camera. This means the 6.59" LCD screen is unblemished by a notch, which most of the recent Huawei phones have. This is not an expensive phone, it's up on Amazon Italy for €280. The mid-range price means that there's no in-display fingerprint reader, instead you get a traditional reader on the back. There you'll notice the dual texture finish, which gives it a bit of a Nexus look. Also on the back is the 16MP main camera and the 2MP depth sensor. Huawei P smart Z in Midnight Black, Starlight...

Motorola Moto E6 render surfaces, no fingerprint scanner in sight

Motorola is expected to unveil the Motorola One Vision on May 15 in Brazil, but alongside that, we might also see the Lenovo subsidiary announce the Moto E6, which just appeared in another leaked render. The Moto E6 will succeed the Moto E5 which was announced last April, and the photo that has leaked shows us that the front of the E6 looks similar to its predecessor - a tall display surrounded by thick bezels and Motorola branding on the chin. However, the backs of these phones look different. The E5 has the main camera placed in the center within a huge bump, below which is the...
