Sony H81XX phones leak with 4K display, Android Oreo

After the H83XX series, two news Sony smartphone series have been revealed through their user-agent profiles - H81XX and H82XX. The first one is clearly a premium/high-end device with at least two versions (H8116 and H8166), featuring 2160 x 3840 pixel display and Android Oreo OS. This would make the Sony H81XX the successor of the XZ Premium and the third phone by the Japanese company with a 4K screen. It will likely be the first to bring the high resolution to a phone with minimal bezels, as Sony already confirmed it will be going in that direction in 2018. Another phone to pop up...

New Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 update on Verizon brings Netflix HDR streaming support

Verizon has started pushing out a new update to Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 units on its network. Arriving as software version NRD90M.T827VVRU1AQJ3, the update brings along support for Netflix High Dynamic Range (HDR) video streaming. A couple of other changes are there as well, including fix for a Fingerprint Setup Wizard issue as well as Android security fixes for the month of October. As is usually the case with OTA roll outs, it might take some time for the update to hit your device. So be patient. Source

ZTE Axon M gets $200 price cut in US

While AT&T is already offering a $100 reward card on purchase of the ZTE Axon M, there's another promo currently being offered by retailer Best Buy, allowing you to save $200 on the foldable, dual touchscreen smartphone. The deal, however, is only available if you opt for monthly payment plan - $17.49/mo for 30 months, instead of the regular $24.17/mo. So you'll end up paying a total of around $525, instead of $725. No information on when the discount ends, so those interested in availing the deal may have to act fast. Source

Amazon Echo Plus Review

The Amazon Echo Plus is an update to the original Amazon Echo that was launched back in 2014. Well, technically that device was replaced by a second generation Amazon Echo and the original model was updated with a built-in hub and other functionality, along with a new name and a $150 price tag. Visually, the Echo Plus looks identical to the original model. It's a tall cylinder with a speaker grille covering its lower half. On top are the mute and Alexa buttons, along with a ring of far field microphones and LED. These are surrounded by another ring of rotating physical volume control....

Week 48 in review: Samsung W2018 and Honor V10 debut

Two premium handsets debuted this week - Samsung introduced its W2018 flip phone, while Huawei unveiled the V10 phablet. The first one is going to remain exclusive to China, but the latter has great potential of becoming a cheaper alternative to the Mate 10 duo globally. A leak gave us our first glimpse of Sony's upcoming flagship and the first bezelless device by the company. Other devices to star in leaks were Nokia 9 and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. Samsung had a couple of new version of its H1 flagships to show. The Galaxy S8 got a Burgundy Red color option, while the S8+ is now...

Nokia Steel HR hands-on review

The smartwatch market doesn't have many hybrids, which makes the Steel HR smartwatch a member of a rare breed. It's neither an Android Wear nor a Tizen device (it's obviously not a Watch OS wearable either) - it's half analog watch, half smartband. It has a physical watch face that doesn't change and a small screen. All of that makes for battery life measured in days, not hours, and a unique wearable, which we rather enjoy handling. You may or may not have heard of Withings - it was a company that made fitness devices, smart scales and connected watches. Nokia acquired Withings...

Week 47 in review: Oreo updates and Black Friday deals

Week 47 was all about the Black Friday deals with retailers around the world running sales on just about every piece of hardware available. A notable exception was OnePlus that took a stance against that and said it's offering its phones at sale prices all year round. We also started seeing an increase in rumors and leaks about the early 2018 flagship devices, while the Nokia 8 got its Oreo update. Some new hardware debuted too - a couple of Oppo mid-rangers and an affordable tablet by Motorola. We even got a new Windows Phone handset by Wileyfox, although that's mostly meant for...

Counterclockwise: OLED screens challenge old-fashioned LCDs

The cathode ray tube was revolutionary - it brought screens to the home, before it you had to go to the cinema to watch a movie. In the last couple of decades CRT was displaced by LCD - liquid crystal displays - but now LCDs themselves are under attack from OLED - organic light emitting diodes. Our poll shows that people prefer OLED, but since it's a relatively new tech, few phones use this type of display. Samsung was an early mover in the field with 2004's X120, which had a 1.8" OLED display with 128 x 128 pixel resolution. The number of OLED-packing phones has grown significantly since...

Weekly poll: how much storage is enough?

4K videos, AAA games, lossless music, things add up quickly and if the result is more gigabytes than you have in your phone, then you have to do the cursed "storage shuffle" dance. Sure, a microSD card slot can tilt things in your favor but those are far less common today than a few years ago. Plus, flash storage prices have been falling recently, so how come there are still plenty of 16GB and 32GB phones around? The worst thing about this is that it's not a one time concern, but instead something to think about each time you upgrade. Each new phone has to have equal more more storage...

Huawei Mate 10 Lite in for review

Huawei unveiled the Mate 10, the Mate 10 Pro and the Mate 10 Porsche Design at an event in Munich back in October, but a fourth member of the Mate family started reaching markets under the radar even earlier. It is the Huawei Mate 10 Lite, and it has just arrived for a review. If that name does not ring a bell, but the phone looks familiar, you may actually know it by Huawei Nova 2i in Malaysia, Huawei Maimang 6 in China or Huawei Honor 9i in India. To make the Mate series available to various markets and customers, Huawei launched the Mate 10 Lite as an excellent offer for...

Top 10 trending phones of week 48

This is getting serious - the Oppo F5 counted its 6th consecutive week at the top of our popularity chart and it even managed to extend its lead this time. At that rate, the Galaxy S8's record streak might finally be surpassed. There wasn't much movement this week, but the second and third placed phones traded places and now the Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro is ahead of the OnePlus 5T. Xiaomi Mi A1 is forth for the third week in a row, but right below it slides the yet-to-be-announced Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. The upcoming mid-ranger's hype train is quickly gaining speed. The Apple iPhone X...
