Oppo patents slider phone with extendable display

According to the latest smartphone patent from Oppo, a new smartphone design has come about. This design is reminiscent of the classic slider phone: a mobile device with a display that can be slip up along a track to reveal either a larger display or a set of buttons underneath. The latest patent marries the slider to a modern touchscreen smartphone. Rather than a smartphone that folds closed like the Galaxy Z Flip, the Oppo patent (filed back on February 27 2020) shows a smartphone with a square-size display. Upon pulling the display up, the screen gets longer and taller into an “open”...

Certification mentioning a OnePlus smartwatch surfaces

Rumors of OnePlus working on a smartwatch aren’t very recent. In fact, OnePlus founder Carl Pei tweeted in June 2016 (over four years ago) sketches of a OnePlus smartwatch that never came into fruition. This watch was intended to be released between the launches of the OnePlus 2 and OnePlus 3. That watch would have features a round form factor with interchangeable bands and bezels. What could have been but never will be. Sony Xperia 5 II specs leak alongside more renders

Sony is expected to announce the Xperia 5 II at an online event on September 17. This will obviously be the successor to the Xperia 5 from last year, and it looks like Sony isn't ready to give up on its insane naming scheme just yet. Recently we saw the first leaked render showing the Xperia 5 II, and today more of these have been outed, alongside a substantial list of its specs. The phone is said to sport a 6.1-inch FHD+ OLED display with 21:9 aspect ratio, 120 Hz refresh rate, and 240 Hz touch sampling rate. At the helm we find the Snapdragon 865 chipset (the vanilla, non-Plus...

Redmi 9A tipped to come to India soon rebadged to Redmi 9i

Redmi brought over the Redmi 9C to India as the Redmi 9 earlier today. Before that, we saw the Redmi 9 Prime debut - that one was based on the global Redmi 9. This leaves the Redmi 9A as the only Redmi 9 variant yet to grace India and according to a new tip from Ishan Agarwal, we’ll see it as the Redmi 9i. Redmi 9A Yes, that’s Xiaomi’s increasingly convoluted naming scheme in play but it makes sense given the previous rebadged Redmi 9 models. There’s still no exact word on the launch date and pricing of the device but according to the Redmi 9i might come with a slightly higher price...

The Product Marketing Manager and Global Spokesperson for the Poco brand has seen the recent Poco X3 leaks and decided to get in the game. He posted four possible designs for the upcoming phone asking his followers on Twitter to guess which one is the real deal. Four possible designs for the Poco X3 The broad strokes of the design are known – we saw the back panel in FCC documentation. However, the camera layout was left blank. All four designs posted posted by the Poco exec show a quad camera setup, but there are two things to note here. First, none of them seems to have...

Samsung releases a Galaxy M51 teaser

Samsung India just shared a teaser of its upcoming midranger, the Galaxy M51. The short clip shows the phone as a monster and we are guessing that refers to its battery that previous rumors said will have 7,000 mAh capacity. If you can guess why the all-new #SamsungM51 is the most unpredictable, power-packed #MeanestMonsterEver, you can stand a chance to win one for yourself. A mean reward for one mean monster lover out there. pic.twitter.com/o2YAzwJL6U— Samsung India (@SamsungIndia) August 27, 2020 A Google console listing from earlier today gave us a good idea about the key specs. ...

Apple's share in the TWS buds market shrinks despite increasing sales

A Counterpoint Research report shows that Apple has lost some market share in the truly wireless earphones market while its AirPods sales are actually going up. From nearly half of all the sales of TWS buds in 2019, Apple's share has dropped down to 35% in 2020. However, the raw numbers still show healthy growth - 61 million sales in 2019 to a forecasted 82 million sales in 2020. The reason for the decreasing share is mostly Chinese brands offering the same, if not better features and sound quality at considerably lower prices. Samsung is gaining traction as well - now standing at 6%...

Samsung’s August 5 Galaxy Unpacked event wasn’t enough for the Korean tech giant to share all details on its new Galaxy devices so it decided to throw a Part 2 on September 1 at 2 PM UTC. As the accompanying poster shows the event will be centered around the Galaxy Z Fold2 which was introduced at the previous Unpacked event though not with all its details. Amazon unveils Halo band and service can 3D scan your body, listen to the tone of your voice

Amazon is entering the wearable market with its health-tracking Halo band. Note that the focus here is on health rather than exercise. Also, this isn’t really a smart band, it’s more of a wrist-worn collection of sensors. Specifically, there’s an accelerometer, a temperature sensor, a heart rate monitor and two microphones. There’s no display here, in fact the fabric and silicone bands also cover the front of the device. You won’t get notifications on your Halo band and you can’t use the mics to ask Alexa a question. Actually, this band is very much disconnected from other Amazon...

Huawei Mate 40 and 40 Pro cases show a round camera bump, vanilla model has a 3.5 mm jack

Basic transparent cases that allegedly belong to the Huawei Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro have surfaced, courtesy of leakster Digital Chat Station. They have a circular opening for the camera bump on the back, rather than square. There’s no extra hole for the LED flash, which suggests that it has been incorporated into the circle. Which makes sense as the circular hump is now larger than on the Mate 30 series. Now let’s have a closer look at the differences between the Pro and the vanilla model. Huawei Mate 40 Pro case: note the volume rocker and the extra grille The Huawei Mate 40...

Apple iPad Air manual leaks to reveal side-mounted Touch ID

A leaked user manual for the upcoming iPad Air reveals a couple of features and bits about the design. The manual itself is in Spanish and comes from the Eurasian Economic Commission as part of the registration process. Shots of the user manual Judging by some of the images from the user manual, we can say that the new iPad Air will feel and look a lot like the 11-inch iPad Pro from 2018 with super-thin bezels but instead of Face ID, the device will adopt Touch ID. The fingerprint reader is said to be integrated into the power button on the right side, making this the first...

Sony Xperia 5 II official announcement set for September 17

Sony scheduled a “new product announcement” for September 17 and the #SonyXperia hashtag leaves little doubt that there’s a new phone on the way. The company wouldn’t be making so much noise unless it was about to launch the Sony Xperia 5 II, right? We saw the first renders of the phone yesterday, showing a triple cam with ZEISS T* lenses as well as a classic top and bottom bezel design on the front. There isn’t much info on the hardware, however. It should be very close to the Xperia 1 II, save for some changes (e.g. the 3D ToF sensor seems to have gone missing). The screen size is...

Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro hands-on photos leak, show huge 108 MP cam

A cache of images and info on the Xiaomi Mi 10T has leaked from a couple of sources. They all paint a picture of a supercharged flagship that will be available globally (unlike the Mi 10 Ultra). There are at least two models, Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro, and there could be more. Hands on photos with the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro show a massive lens for the 108 MP sensor. The layout is similar to the vivo X50 Pro, so this might feature an advanced stabilization system of some sort. Alleged Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro hands-on photos A config file shows that the Mi 10T Pro (code name Apollo Pro)...

ZTE Axon 20 5G camera sample teased by company exec

ZTE’s next flagship, the Axon 20 5G, is coming on September 1. Before then, the company has already teased the phone’s under display selfie camera, some renders, and on Thursday, the company’s Head of Consumer Experiences and Strategy, Qianhao Lv, has shared a sample image shot with the new Axon phone. The image captured shows the sun setting over a lake with some clouds and reflections of buildings. Of course, the image was compressed once it was posted online, but we can still tell some of the aspects of this 64MP camera that show promising performance. Camera sample from ZTE...

Fairphone 3+ comes with improved cameras and NFC, same ethical commitment

In a tech world obsessed with short upgrade cycles and the race for the ultimate spec’d phone we tend to put aside some moral topics like e-waste, material sources and working conditions for the people who assemble the devices. Fairphone has positioned itself as the ethical smartphone choice and today it’s announcing its latest entry - the Fairphone 3+. In most aspects its similar to its predecessor though the big upgrade this time is in the camera department with a 48MP main shooter and 16MP selfie cam. Fairphone 3+ Existing Fairphone 3 users can also upgrade their phone’s...

Indian Redmi 9 unveiled with two cameras, Helio G35

Xiaomi's increasingly confusing Redmi lineup got a new addition today as the company announced the Redmi 9 in India. It's not what global markets get as Redmi 9, since that one is known as Redmi 9 Prime in India. Instead, the newly unveiled Indian Redmi 9 is very similar to the Redmi 9C from earlier this summer, save for the downgraded main camera. The Redmi 9 for India has the same looks, including the squircle (square circle, as the Xiaomi rep, joyfully revealed) island with four holes. One is for the 13 MP main shooter, next to it is the 2 MP depth sensor, on the bottom row is the...
