vivo announces its own sub-brand called iQOO

New year, new Chinese sub-brand. Just a week after the Lunar New Year, vivo introduced the iQOO Mobile Phone brand with a futuristic teaser. The official website of the company is iqoo.com, but when you currently open it, it has some information about vivo and nothing about the new company. If you don't know how to read "iQOO," you are not alone. The brand's Weibo account posted a question "Do you know how to read our name" and in three hours it gathered over 1,300 comments. Neither the parent company nor the sub-brand is saying anything about devices, but vivo will send an...

It's no surprise that Xiaomi has a foldable phone in the works. We've seen a couple of videos of it including one with the company's founder giving a hands-on demonstration of it in action. Xiaomi has issued an official statement to LetsGoDigital where the company describes the foldable phone and some background on its development, design, as well as overcoming some of the challenges with the flexible display and folding mechanism in addition to the way the MIUI reacts to the phone's different folding configurations. It also explains that the display is being developed in partnership with...

Samsung Galaxy S10+ banner leaks

We've been hearing many rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S10+ and the latest leak comes from @evleaks who tweeted a banner photo with a render of Samsung's upcoming flagship. In fact, the image tweeted is a photo of the actual banner that we're probably going to see physically hanging up at the event. Notice the shiny part of the matte material it was printed on toward the top of the image. So yeah, looks like that's definitely happening... [Thanks, tipster!] pic.twitter.com/CQ0nxrAGh2— Evan Blass (@evleaks) February 11, 2019 As a reminder, the launch event is taking place next...

Android Enterprise listing confirms some Nokia 9 PureView specs

The latest leak surrounding the Nokia 9 PureView came from Google itself through a listing ‘accidentally' published on Andorid's Enterprise catalog of supported devices. The listing showed a render of the front the phone with the screen off. Still, it's in line with leaks we've already seen. The listing has since been taken down. Render from Android Enterprise site The listing confirms the phone's 6-inch display and Android 9.0 running onboard. It also mentions 4GB of RAM and 128G of on-board storage. The entry also mentions fingerprint and NFC support, but the Nokia 9 PureView won't...

T-Mobile's Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ updated to One UI

Samsung flagships are usually among the last to receive major Android updates. Although the international versions of the Galaxy S9 and S9+ received the Android Pie update in late-December, it's only now that the T-Mobile variant of the phone is starting to receive the OTA notification. The update began rolling out yesterday brings Samsung's newest One UI skin over Android Pie. Not only this, but the firmware upgrade also includes support for RCS, the next generation of SMS/MMS. T-Mobile's firmware release notes also mention support for Band 28 (700MHz) while roaming, general bug fixes and...

Samsung confirms the February 20 launch of its foldable phone

Samsung gave us a glimpse of its foldable phone last year in November. And then at CES this year, it showcased the phone to a limited audience. Samsung was expected to launch its foldable phone - currently called Galaxy Fold - on February 20 alongside the Galaxy S10 series smartphones. But now, it looks like Samsung will indeed launch the Galaxy Fold on February 20 with the Galaxy S10. The future of mobile will unfold on February 20, 2019. #SamsungEvent pic.twitter.com/MHvwrt7Rf4— Samsung Mobile (@SamsungMobile) February 11, 2019 Samsung has dropped a teaser video on Twitter with the...

Sony Xperia XA3 handled on video, looks every bit as tall as rumors suggest

A few days ago we reported on a few blurry renders of what seems to be Sony's Xperia XA3 being handled in the wild. Today, we can show you the blurry source to those blurry renders - a quick (and a bit hectic) hands-on video of the device in the wild. The video doesn't add any new information to the renders, but it does remove any suspicion that this is a functioning device. The Sony Xperia XA3 will have a screen of taller than usual 21:9 aspect ratio with a slim bottom bezel and a thick top one (likely because it houses the earpiece, the selfie camera, and the speaker). Rumor has it...

Google Maps AR navigation is now rolling out

Google has Maps and Street View, but the company is finally rolling out a real-life mixture of both. Navigation with Augmented Reality is reportedly being pushed to Local Guides, a group of people that are community reviewers inside the Maps platform. Google says the feature needs "more testing" before launching it to more users. The app works quite simple - when you start it, Google wants you to look around to recognize the buildings around you and from then on you just follow the arrows. There is also a neat prompt to put the phone down when you're walking; otherwise, you might...

Nubia teases a flexible device for the MWC 2019

ZTE's sub-brand nubia just teased a flexible device that will be shown at the Mobile World Congress at the end of the month. The teaser's message is "Flex Your Life" and undoubtedly hints at a flexible device. Whether that's a foldable phone or some other device is not clear. Nubia did tease a curved smartphone for your wrist at the IFA show in Berlin last August, so maybe that's what they'll show at the MWC. nubia's teaser for a flexible device The MWC is shaping up to be a huge event this year. You've got your usual Samsung, Sony and LG flagships that will be unveiled but...

Meizu is having a February 14 announcement

The Meizu Note 9 appeared on TENAA with full specs last week, with photos added later. Looks like we don't have to wait until we have the whole picture unveiled - the company has scheduled an event on Thursday, February 14, where we expect the device to be introduced. The teaser has a silhouette of a phone, along with the number "3" which is simply how many days are left until the unveiling. The Meizu Note 9, likely to arrive as Meizu M9 Note at some markets, has a model number of M923Q and has a few uncovered mysteries like pricing, availability and actual market launch...

TSMC to remain as sole supplier for Apple's A13 chips

A report from inside sources surfaced claiming that TSMC will remain Apple's sole supplier of chips for this year's iPhones. Last year, TSMC made all of Apple's A12 Bionic chips and we expect the same for the 2019 iPhones too. The new A13 chip will remain on the 7nm node but with enhanced EUV (Extreme Ultraviolet lithography). Production should kick off in the second quarter of 2019 if all goes to plan. TSMC's CEO said that 25% of the company's revenue comes from the 7nm foundries and will probably continue to grow because of the increased demand in the HPC and automotive sectors....

Samsung Galaxy S10 could come in Cinnabar Red

An image showing a Cinnabar Red color version of the Samsung Galaxy S10 has come out of China, adding to the color selection for the upcoming flagship, which (based on all recent reports) will be Black, White and Green. There will be a Yellow color exclusive to the S10e, similarly the Red may be limited to just the S10. Speaking of limits, the source of this image may not be a coincidence - red is an important color in China, symbolizing good fortune and joy. It's especially common during the Chinese New Year celebrations, but those are due to end before the S10 is unveiled. Still,...

AirPods 2 will keep the design unchanged, AirPower coming this spring

After the AirPods 2 were spotted on the Bluetooth SIG website a few months ago revealing a Bluetooth 5.0 LE support, a newly surfaced information just came in with a bit more details. According to an inside source, the new AirPods 2 will look almost identical to their predecessors but will carry some under-the-hood changes like better bass response and will include additional health-related tech such as a heart rate sensor. Battery life, however, is expected to be just about the same. There's also a rumor going around that the new AirPods 2 will feature a new coating for better...

Samsung Philippines is doing an early pre-order for Galaxy S10, but it's all under wraps

Observant redditors spotted a curious "early pre-order" on Samsung Philippines. What's curious about it is that you're not told what you're getting, instead you can pick from Options A through D. Still, Option A has a "Limited Edition" label above it that quite literally shines to grab your attention. And as soon as you click it, a red text tells you that this option will be available on March 15. What else is happening in March in Galaxy-land? Not much - other than the launch of the Galaxy S10 series. Option A comes with an "exclusive" gift package worth a total of PHP 30,698 -...

Samsung Galaxy A8s is technically the first smartphone with a selfie camera in the screen. It was introduced in three colors, later followed by the Female Edition that had a yellow-pink gradient back panel. Now a fifth version was launched by the maker in China - it is called Unicorn Edition or Unicorn Pink and is a gradient from baby pink to light blue. The Galaxy A8s in Unicorn Pink is sold with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. On the inside it is exactly the same - Snapdragon 710 chipset and LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution and tall 19.5:9 ratio. There are three cameras on...

LG G8 ThinQ 128 GB to cost around $900

LG G8 ThinQ will arrive at MWC 2019 and so far we know it will have ToF sensor on the front to help the selfie camera for face unlocking and 3D animated emojis. It is also expected to run the Snapdragon 855 chipset and to have the biggest battery in an LG flagship in the last five years. These specs suggest a high retail price and we'll likely get exactly that. According to a reddit user, the phone with 128 GB storage will cost CAD1,199 which is slightly over $900. Smartphones in Canada are usually a bit more expensive than in the United States, so the LG G8 ThinQ 128 GB will likely be...
