Google Pixel 2 headphone adapter not working for some users

A new problem related to Google's Pixel 2 smartphones has come to light. Over at the company's official Pixel forum, several users have been reporting issues with the included USB-C to 3.5mm headphone adapter for quite some time now. Specifically, users say the adapter doesn't work as the sound comes from the phone's speakers instead of headphones. Troubleshooting steps like rebooting the phone or operating it in the safe mode worked for a few users, but as you'd agree, those are not convenient solutions. Some of those who contacted Google support were offered...

Taiwanese Investment Commission approves HTC/Google deal

Back in September, HTC and Google announced a deal worth $1.1 billion which gives Google access to HTC's intellectual properties and some of HTC's hardware team to help develop the next Pixel devices and further develop HTC's VR division with products like the Vive. This weekend, the Taiwanese Investment Commission (similar the US's anti-trust regulators) has approved the deal taking place between the Google search giant and the Taiwanese smartphone maker. The deal's approval has caused the shares to spike up when the stock market opened on Monday morning, stocks could rise even...

Alleged photo of Galaxy S9 backplate suggests a single camera setup

We've already seen two leaks of the Samsung Galaxy S9 today. At this point, the 3D-renders left pretty much nothing to the imagination and we pretty much know what to expect with Samsung's upcoming device. While we've already seen the front glass of the device, we're just now taking a look at what the back of the device looks like in another form of (arguably) concrete evidence: live photos. Photos can always be photo shopped, so there's a possibility that the final hardware could differ from what you're seeing here. In any case, this new leak along with the leak of the front...

Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018) go official with dual selfie cams, Infinity Display

Meet the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) - Samsung's new naming scheme hides it, but these are the successors to the Galaxy A5 (2017) and A7 (2017). These two sit closer to the S-series than any of their predecessors and even bring something unique. On the front is Samsung's first dual selfie camera - a 16MP + 8MP combo. The Live Focus feature lets you chose whether the background is in focus or blurred to a soft bokeh. The phone will seamlessly switch between the two front cameras to get the effect you need. The main camera has been upgraded with a brighter f/1.7 aperture for...

The HTC U11 Life launched in the US running Android Nougat with Sense on top, despite the same phone landing internationally with Oreo on board in its Android One iteration. Last month the units sold unlocked stateside started receiving the latest tasty software treat, and today it's finally time for those devices sold by T-Mobile to get the same treatment. The update to Android 8.0 Oreo has started rolling out, as revealed by HTC's official Twitter account for the US. Since this is a big update, you will have to download it over Wi-Fi. Huawei exec confirms Mate 10 headed to US carriers in 2018, details coming at CES

After many months of rumors on the matter, it's finally official: Huawei will sell the Mate 10 through at least one US carrier in 2018. This information has been outed by none other than Richard Yu, the president of the Chinese company's consumer business. He hasn't revealed which carrier (or carriers) the Mate 10 will be offered by, but all previous mumblings pointed to AT&T as being the first company to make that deal. Verizon may have joined in the fun too. Yu didn't disclose any pricing information either, aside from noting that the phablet will be "competitively priced", but...

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ front panels leak alongside rumored battery capacity

Last week we showed you CAD-based renders of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+, which have showed the devices from all angles (there are even render videos). Today coming to further confirm the minimal design changes for the S9 duo from their predecessors is a shot of their front panels. The image clearly shows a very similar design to the S8 and S8+, but with ever so slightly smaller screen bezels. The trimming is especially noticeable when you glance at the bottom bezel, but it's definitely still a bezel - the once-rumored complete cutting of that hasn't panned out, it...

Nokia 5 survives scratch, burn, and bend test

The latest phone to go through the standardized scratch, burn, and bend testing performed by Zack from YouTube channel JerryRigEverything is the Nokia 5. This is definitely set towards the lower-end of the mid-range in the brand's Android smartphone portfolio, but it still comes with a full metal body and a solid-looking build. It can also be had in the intriguing Copper color version, which is the one that stars in the video embedded below. The Nokia 5 manages to pass the test with flying colors, which means Nokia's well known propensity for creating solid devices has been left intact...

Facebook to start demoting posts with engagement bait titles

Facebook has announced a new policy that should cut down on a lot of spammy garbage from your timeline. Going forward, all posts that ask users to engage with them in any way will be demoted and buried out of view. Engagement baiting is a tactic that has become popular on the internet recently where the headline goads the reader into interacting it in some way or the other. On Facebook, these usually manifest themselves as posts that begin with "Like this if." or "Tag someone who." or "Comment if you.", etc. These get people to interact with them, which in turn increases their...

Google's online store in the US dropped the small Pixel 2 to $600 (64GB) or $700 (128GB). The larger Pixel 2 XL is $774 (64GB) or $874 (128GB). In mainland Europe, both the Pixel 2 (64GB) and the Pixel 2 XL (64GB) get a €150...

Sony Xperia XZ2 alleged render shows the bezel-less design

Specs of a Sony flagship, codenamed H8216, appeared several days ago. Now we have the first alleged render of the phone that might arrive as the Xperia XZ2 or the Xperia XZ1 Premium. The image suggests the device will have no bezels on three sides of its screen akin to the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. The phone appears to have the power button on the side, most likely with the fingerprint scanner embedded. There is also a volume rocker and dedicated camera button on the right side. The tall screen spans all the way to the bottom, leaving a small bezel on top for the speaker, proximity sensor,...
