Honor 10i appears on TENAA with 6 GB RAM

Honor 10i appeared in Russia last month, and although it had similar specs to Honor 10 Lite, it was actually a new smartphone with three cameras, 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. The phone has now appeared on TENAA with model number HRY-TL00T and HRY-AL00Ta, and from looking at the specs, it appears the 10i will hit China with more RAM - 6 GB. While the memory is more, the rest of the specs remain the same. Kirin 710 chipset is the powerhouse of the Honor 10i, while the screen is 6.21" LCD panel with a waterdrop notch for the 32 MP selfie shooter. The triple setup on the back is a 24...

Apple's 2019 iPhones to have reverse wireless charging

Among all the talk of 5G, and alongside all the efforts to cut bezels as much as possible, a more gimmicky trend emerged in the mobile world last year too - reverse wireless charging. Huawei's Mate 20 Pro had it, the new P30 Pro has it as well, Samsung hopped on the bandwagon with the S10, and now it looks like Apple bought a ticket on the train too. According to a new report from famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, sent out to investors today, the company is going to include the tech in its upcoming 2019 iPhones, due to be unveiled this fall. With this feature, the new iPhones will...

Google Pixel 2 officially discontinued

The Google Pixel 2 and its bigger brother, the Pixel 2 XL, are officially nearing the end of their life cycles as they have disappeared from the company's store. This shouldn't come as a surprise given the fact that the phones were released back in October 2017. The past few months saw several discounts on the second gen Pixels, foreshadowing their imminent retirement. With rumors pointing to the looming Pixel 3a and 3a XL launch, this makes perfect sense for Google. The Pixel 2 family will be remembered for their photography prowess thanks to the excellent image processing software....

Japan Display rescue plan confirmed: close to $1B for making OLEDs

Japan Display, Apple's largest LCD supplier, has confirmed that it will accept an investment close to $1B this week, in order to boost its OLED production capacity. The investment of reported $720M comes from an outside investment group (rumored to be State-backed Chinese Silkroad fund) with a further $270M coming from a refinanced agreement between JDI and the Japanese Government. The announcement caused JDI's shares to rise over 10%. Japan Display has thrived over the years as Apple's main LCD supplier but has recently faced tough times as Apple has moved to OLED and decreased...

Camera samples from Oppo Reno "Standard Edition" posted by company VP

Oppo VP Brian Shen posted full-resolution camera samples from the Oppo Reno. Well, 12MP photos at least, the phone is supposed to have a 48MP main sensor (likely a Quad Bayer). Shen says these are straight from the phone with no post-processing. Oppo Reno "Standard Edition" camera samples (12MP) Note that Shen calls this the "Reno Standard Edition", which may explain why we didn't see a 10x zoom camera on the back of the leaked official images. A Snapdragon 710 powered Reno passed through AnTuTu a few days ago. The rumors also describe a Snapdragon 855 version of...

Xiaomi shipped 1 million Mi 9 units, 1.5 million if you include the Mi 9 SE

The Xiaomi Mi 9 has shipped more than 1 million units worldwide. The phone launched in late February, so it hit this milestone in about a month. Adding the Mi 9 SE shipments, the total raises to over 1.5 million units (presumably this includes the Explorer version too). Note that the SE isn't available globally yet. Mi 9 reaches 1 million shipments • Combined with the Mi 9 SE the number grows to 1.5 million Last year, the Mi 8 series - not just the Mi 8 itself, but the Explorer and SE too - sold 1 million units in under three weeks. The trio went on to sell 6 million in four...

Galaxy S7 down to quarterly security updates, same as the new Galaxy A70

When it comes to security updates, Samsung's Android-powered devices roughly fall into two categories - ones that get monthly updates and ones that get a security patch once every three months. The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, now three years old, continue to be supported but they will no longer be getting monthly updates (the S7 active was spared this fate, however). The Galaxy Note FE is technically from 2017, but is really a reborn Note7 from 2016 so it too goes down to the quarterly schedule. It's not entirely based on age, however. Samsung's flagships - S8 and younger - are treated to...

Xiaomi patents a notched phone with dual selfie camera on the bottom

In a day like April Fools' you would expect all kinds of shenanigans from tech companies. You would think a smartphone with dual selfie cameras in a notch on the bottom side of the screen sounds like a joke, but the actual funny part is that this is real patent Xiaomi requested from the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). But wait, there's more - it also licensed a version where the shooters are going in the bottom corners. Just check out the renders, provided by LetsGoDigital. The license is in the WIPO database with actual registration number and identification...

The new Meizu 16s is expected to look a lot like the Meizu 16, but with thinner top and bottom bezels. It will have a tall screen and Full HD+ resolution - 18.6:9 ration and 2232 x 1080 pixels. Nubia Alpha coming April 8

The nubia Alpha is a unique device, it has all the capabilities of a smartphone but it's supposed to be worn on your wrist. You can track your fitness progress, control your audio and notifications just like other smartwatches but what separates the Alpha is that it can also make calls, take pictures and do basically everything your phone can, autonomously. Today we learned that the smartphone (as nubia likes to call it) is scheduled for release on April 8 in China on all the major e-commerce platforms. We got a chance to play around with the device at MWC and while it does have some...

However, today official renders of the phone were spotted on the Chinese retailer website JD.com and there is no triple setup whatsoever. We can see only the notchless front and a dual camera setup, along with some fancy colors and some unique design elements. Oppo Reno from all sides The Oppo Reno was already confirmed to come in Purple, Pink, Green, and Black, but this is the first time we see what they would look like (it appears the previous...

Nutritional info on Android versions: KitKat has a lot of calories, Froyo was healthiest

People are always concerned about the SAR of phones and software bloat, but why isn't anyone talking about how calorie dense modern operating systems have become? Android offers nothing but sweets! To educate the public, we did some research on the various Android versions. This wasn't as easy as it sounds since the names can be a bit vague. For example, "Android 9.0 Pie" doesn't specify the flavor. Looking at official images though, it's pretty clear that it is cherry pie. Note that the scoop of ice cream is optional, so we didn't include it in the numbers below. Portion sizes...
