Moto X Play is now receiving the update to Android 7.1.1 Nougat
The Moto X Play from 2015 is the latest smartphone to be graced with an update to Android Nougat, perhaps surprisingly given its age. Moreover, this model is getting Android 7.1.1, and not 7.0 like most non-Nexus or Pixel devices have so far. That's a good thing too, because one can't have too many bug fixes. Motorola's official support site already has documentation about this update listed, so the over-the-air rollout should have started by now. Aside from bringing you a more recent iteration of Google's mobile OS, this release also contains all the security fixes outed so far. Thus...
Nokia is launching something in India on June 13
HMD Global, the company that's now making Nokia-branded smartphones, has just announced an event in India for June 13. Invites have started reaching media outlets in the subcontinent, but unfortunately there are absolutely no details on these (as you can see in the image below). Perhaps the "formal invitation" that is to follow at some point between now and then will shed some light on what's to be expected. That said, we can easily speculate that this is all going to be about the much-anticipated local launch of the Nokia 6, 5, and 3 smartphones in India. We hope we will get to hear...

Honor 9 to have metal body with front and back glass panels
We've already seen alleged different color hues of the Huawei Honor 9 based on a render we told you about a month ago. Now we get to learn more about its build materials - the phone will come with the familiar family formula of a metal frame sandwiched between glass panels on the front and back. The image was leaked on Weibo, showing the edge of the Honor 9. The Honor 9 is expected to be a slight improvement over its predecessor the Honor 8, when launched on June 12, but the device might come without a headphone jack. Via
Refurbished Galaxy Note7 listed by South Korean retailer
We've heard reports and saw leaks about the reborn Samsung Galaxy Note7, but the latest discovery shows us the device is ever so closer to a relaunch. Although some called it the Galaxy Note7R, a device with the latest rumored title Galaxy Note FE appeared on the South Korean retailer Danawa. The listing does not reveal more than what we already know. The phone will come via a USB-C port. Apart from these specs, the Galaxy Note7R will look and feel exactly like the discontinued Galaxy Note7. The retailer still says that pre-order would start in June, but is yet to list specific...

OnePlus 5 teaser suggests it's smaller than the 3T
OnePlus continues to dole out information about the OnePlus 5 - "what do you 5ee?", a tantalizing photo asks. It's the OnePlus 3T, obviously, but there's something below it. Unfortunately, just like photos of the Loch Ness monster, it's just too difficult to make out any details. Still, from this angle it seems that the OnePlus 5 is smaller than the 3T. All rumors so far have been for a 5.5" screen (ofQHD resolution), but this lends some credence to the dual-edge screen gossip. Screen size is only half the reasons phones are big - the other half is chunky bezels. Look into the shadows....

Qualcomm introduces faster and more efficient Quick Charge 4+
Qualcomm announced Quick Charge 4 with the unveiling of the Snapdragon 835 at the beginning of the year and now it brings a more polished version of the standard. Its name is Quick Charge 4+ and should be considered as an update to the previous standard since both can be used on the same chipset. Quick Charge 4 devices can switch to QC4+ if manufacturers decide to include three enhancements. Dual Charge is similar to an earlier version of Quick Charge, but now Qualcomm says it is "more powerful". There is also Intelligent Thermal Balancing that steers current through the less used...

Nokia 9 rocks AnTuTu: Snapdragon 835 and 4GB RAM detected
8GB of RAM? Or 4GB? How much RAM does the Nokia 9 have? AnTuTu profile points to 4GB and along the way give us a glimpse at some other specs of what could be a $700/750 flagship. The Snapdragon 835 chipset is a certainty at this point, but the benchmark confirms the other rumored specs - a QHD screen for one. Allegedly, it will have a 5.3" diagonal, making is smaller (but sharper) than the Nokia 6 screen. Nokia 9 specs (according to AnTuTu) The camera setup is indicated as 13MP main (a dual camera) and a 13MP selfie. Video resolution info is missing, but we'd be very surprised...

New rumors say the phone will pack an Infinity Display similar to the Galaxy S8 duo and the OS out of the box would be Android 7.1.1 Nougat, a version we are yet to see on a Samsung smartphone. A Dutch website confirms that the Galaxy Note 8 is now being tested with the latest version of the Android OS. Also, the display will have the same aspect ratio as the Galaxy S8 - 18.5:9, hinting that the home button will be going away. This news hardly is surprising...
