First Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth specs leak

Back on May 31 when Xiaomi introduced its new flagship smartphones, the Mi 8 SE was the first device that arrived with Snapdragon 710 chipset. Many thought this will be the lite variant of the Mi 8 family, but according to rumors, a slightly bigger device is joining them. First specs of the alleged device appeared on Weibo, suggesting the Mi 8 Youth (the name is translated, it might be actually the Mi 8X) will have a 6.26" tall display and Snapdragon 710. Xiaomi Mi 8 SE is about to have a rival The specs sheet says the resolution of the screen will be 2280 x 1080 pixels, which...

Moto G5 and G5 Plus finally start receiving Android Oreo update

Although Google has released Android 9 Pie for its Pixels last month, some smartphones are only now seeing updates to the previous version of the OS - Oreo. Case in point: Motorola's Moto G5 and G5 Plus. These devices launched last spring, with Android 7.0 Nougat on board, and now they're finally ready to jump to Oreo. There's a catch, however. Currently, the Oreo update's rollout for the Moto G5 is only happening in Mexico. The Moto G5 Plus is getting the new version in India and Brazil only. And even in these countries, the rollouts are phased, so it may take at least a few days for them...

Google officially announces October 9 event for Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL launch

Google's Pixel 3 and especially the Pixel 3 XL have been leaking like crazy lately, so you may have been wondering when they're going to finally become official. Wonder no more. The date is October 9. The announcement will take place in New York City this time, unlike past Google events that were held closer to its home in Mountain View, California. The time you need to remember is 11 AM ET. The company will provide a live video stream on YouTube, and we'll be sure to embed that in a post on that day. The phones will come with the Snapdragon 845 chipset, a single rear camera, dual...

Nokia 9 hands-on image leaks, shows five cameras on the back

Despite countless rumors to the contrary going back more than a year, the Nokia 9 still isn't official. This unicorn-like phone that's supposedly going to be the reborn brand's first true flagship may however become reality soon. That's because the image you can see below leaked in China today, purporting to show the back of the Nokia 9 with a shocking five camera setup. Although the person who leaked the picture calls the device Nokia 9, in the past we've heard that this will be the Nokia 10, so don't take any of the names for granted just yet. Up until this point three rear...

Firefox update brings variable fonts, dark mode and tracker blocking by default

Mozilla is rolling out an update to Firefox across multiple platforms that brings with it some useful changes. First, on the mobile side, the Android version is being updated with improved scrolling performance. After testing the new version, it does feel smoother than the previous one, which stuttered even on Snapdragon 845 smartphones. However, there is still a strange resistance to scrolling, like trying to drag something heavy and it doesn't feel responsive or pleasant to use. In comparison, Mozilla's own Firefox Focus and Firefox Rocket have silky smooth scrolling on...

MediaTek has a new low-cost face unlocking that's just as secure as Apple's Face ID

Everyone knows that Apple's Face ID technology used in the iPhone X is one of the most secure solutions out there. It uses the so-called 3D Structured-Light technology, but only a few Android smartphones have that due to the cost of production. That's why only the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer and Oppo's Find X boast Structured-LIght 3D sensors for their facial recognition. So MediaTek wants to change all that. The facial recognition feature became pretty popular even on budget-friendly handsets. And despite not having all the sensors needed for a proper facial identification they still use...

New OTA update for the Pocophone F1 improves the camera and squashes a few bugs

Xiaomi's Pocophone F1 was launched recently and it's already getting an OTA update that addresses some minor issues and brings software optimizations to the overall system and the camera app. The changelog reads MIUI V9.6.18.0.OEJMIFD build number patch and it's just 361MB big. The upgrade offers a fix for an issue causing apps not to launch and fixes the slightly offset virtual buttons. And interestingly enough, they now follow the AOSP navigation buttons style with the square, circle and triangle instead of using MIUI's default buttons. More importantly, the camera app's...

OnePlus is offering sweet bundle deals with the OnePlus 6

The OnePlus 6T is in the rumor mill right now with a possible release set for November, but that doesn't mean the company is focusing only on the unreleased model. Right now, there's an ongoing bundle sale, with which OnePlus is looking to sell some extra OnePlus 6 handsets ahead of the 6T launch. Probably wants to clear the stock. The "Tough and Smooth Bundle" gets you the 128GB Mirror Black model for €569, a Karbon or Sandstone Case plus the Bullets V2 buds. However, the so-called "Full Survival Kit" is more appealing as it offers the standard 64GB Mirror Black version for €519 and...

Huawei trademarks Y10 moniker in Europe

Huawei is close to the top spot of smartphone manufacturers but is nowhere near reaching it, shipping half the amount of the industry leader Samsung in Q1 2018, according to a report. One way to do it is to launch plenty of new phones with various monikers and it appears the first step has just been taken. The Chinese manufacturer just trademarked the Y10 moniker at EUIPO, paving the way to expand the Y portfolio. It also went on patent frenzy, protecting P66, P77, P88 along with mispronunciations and variations of the company brands like Wawei, Honer, Homor, Huawey,...

Oppo device with SD710 shows up on Geekbench, is it the R17 Pro?

An as of yet unidentified Oppo device with the codename CPH1887 has been spotted on the Geekbench benchmark with a Snapdragon 710 chipset and 6GB of RAM. This is the first time we come across the model number but given its specs we'd wager a guess it's the Oppo R17 Pro (or some variation of it under a different name), as that's the only current Oppo smartphone with the Snapdragon 710 chipset. The benchmark also reveals that the Oppo device is running Android 8.1, likely under ColorOS 5.2. The benchmark listing has since been removed, but if you do a quick search for Oppo in...
