Weekly poll results: Oppo Reno 10x zoom edges out Samsung Galaxy A80

The Oppo Reno 10x zoom prevailed in last week's poll, beating the Samsung Galaxy A80 by a healthy margin. The rivalry between these two goes beyond selfie camera vs. rear camera, though these are clearly major parts of the phones' identities. The Oppo Reno 10x zoom will be only the second phone on the market to deliver a 160mm telephoto lens (same focal length as the P30 Pro, despite the possible confusion caused by the "x zoom" rating). Plus, people have more faith in the reliability of the shark fin pop-up selfie camera. A80's 48MP camera is used for selfies and normal photos •...

Counterclockwise: As 5G arrives we track the 3G and 4G adoption

With the dawn of 5G upon us, we wanted to look at how quickly new networks are adopted. The first 2G networks appeared in 1991 then the first commercial 3G networks came alive in 2001 (but wouldn't reach Europe and the US until 2003). We'll use the relative popularity of 2G-only phones, 3G-enabled phones and then 4G phones to gauge adoption. We'll look at the last 25 years - starting the chart at 1994. But keep in mind that the 1991-2003 period is essentially all 2G. Early 3G phones didn't take the world by storm - MMS was cool, no one used video calls and data plans were still too...

The chip will allegedly be built on a 7nm process like the current Snapdragon 855 top dog. It'll feature an octa-core CPU in a novel 1+1+6 core configuration - a middle ground between the 855's 2+2+4 and the 2+6 of the 730. Clock speeds are expected to be 1x2.9GHz + 1x2.4GHz + 6x1.8GHz and the Kryo 400-branded cores are likely going to be Cortex-A76 derivatives for the two main ones while the 6...

DxO Mark has published an update to its LG V40 ThinQ review bumping the overall score to 94, 1 up from the original result from a few days ago. The correction is due to an error they discovered in one of their tests. The sub-score that's changed is for Exposure and an increase from 83 to 88 has brought the photo score to 98 as opposed to the original 96, which in turn has led to the marginal improvement in the total result.
