The Apple App Store turns 10 next month
We're coming up on an important milestone in smartphone history - next month the Apple App Store will turn 10. The store has grown massively since the early days, now there are 500 million weekly visitors each month. And it has seen massive support from developers, who have earned a whopping $100 billion through their hard work. Over 350,000 of the apps in the store are written in Swift, Apple's own programming language. To help you join the legion of developers, the company has created Swift Playgrounds and will make teaching resources available to students around the world.
Nokia 8 Sirocco review
Sirocco is no wind of change and rushing things is not really the Mediterranean way. It makes perfect sense then that the Nokia 8 Sirocco comes out with last year's chipset and what's now considered an old-school 16:9 aspect display. That's everything old about it though - well, that and, obviously, the name lifted off of one of the special editions Nokia 8800s from the mid-noughties.
Nokia 7 plus goes through the scratch, burn and bend test
HMD has done well to live up to Nokia's legacy - the new Nokia phones have been built like tanks. Can the Nokia 7 plus join the club? Smartphone boogeyman JerryRigEverything dug into the phone with his usual tools. The phone uses Gorilla Glass 3 rather than a newer version, but that might actually be a good thing. The back with its "ceramic-feel" coating didn't stand up so well and was easily scratched with a knife. But that's cosmetic damage, the true test is whether the phone will bend. We won't spoil that for you, click play and find out:
vivo confirms the NEX will have a pop-up selfie camera in new poster
The vivo NEX will have a pop-up selfie camera, just like the APEX concept device at the Mobile World Congress earlier this year. This is revealed by an official poster from vivo, which shows the outline of a phone and of a pop-up front facing camera. The pop up design will allow the vivo NEX to have an all display front without a notch or unnecessary bezels - just screen. vivo, the official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup 2018, will announce the vivo NEX on June 12, two days before the tournament kicks off. We believe it will come in three variants - two powered by the...
Apple's WWDC keynote starts soon, here's how to watch it
WWDC is upon us yet again. Maybe you read our "what to expect" article over the weekend, maybe you want to read it now as the clock ticks down. The event starts at 10 am Pacific Time (17 pm UTC) and will be live streamed. As usual, you'll need an Apple device (Mac OS or iOS) or a Windows 10 PC with the Edge browser to watch the stream. Apple TV users should note that they need to download the Apple Events app. The others can head here to watch. We'll try to fish out a more traditional streaming option - usually, something comes up that can be watched via VLC. We will cover the event...
Lenovo Z5 leaks with a bottom bezel
Lenovo VP Chang Cheng is expected to announce tomorrow the Lenovo Z5 - a flagship phone with a bezel-less front. According to leaked images, the panel will not have a notch, but there is a chin underneath that will house the selfie camera, proximity sensor and eventually an LED flash. A Lenovo device with model number L78011 also appeared on Geekbench. It reached 1332 in Single-Core Score and 4696 in Multi-Core Score, thanks to its Snapdragon 660 chipset and 6 GB RAM. It is a bit off of other devices, powered by the same platform, like the Oppo R15 Pro. The alleged Lenovo Z5 is...
Oppo Find X leaks in hands-on photo
Oppo teased the revival of the Find series last week. The upcoming Find X will arrive as a true flagship, meaning it is most likely to come with a high-end chipset like the Snapdragon 845, a screen with at least WQHD resolution, and a dual camera. The latest leak from Weibo gives us a sneak peek of the Oppo Find X back. The phone will have the cam setup in the middle of the back, accompanied by an LED flash below and the company logo. There is no fingerprint scanner, suggesting it might be on the front or could be missing at all. Rumored specs of Oppo Find X Oppo is staying...
Google Pixel 3 to skip the notch, Pixel 3 XL will have it
With most of the manufacturers already having launched their flagship devices, all we have left to wait is Google and their next Pixel lineup. During the weekend we reported that Google is preparing a Snapdragon 710 for early 2019. Today, a new info about new devices from Mountain View appeared on Twitter, thanks to the serial leaker Steve H. According to his sources, the Pixel 3 will have a 5.3" display, while the Pixel 3XL will have a 6.2" screen with a notch on the top. Google usually announces its phones at the beginning of October and we doubt this year will be any different....
ASUS announces over-the-top ROG Phone with 90Hz display and gaming accessories
After terrorizing desktop computers for years, the gamer-centric branding is now making its way to mobile. Following Razer's footsteps, ASUS has announced the ROG Phone, it's first "gaming phone". It may be a phone noone aske for but it sure looks different than anything else we've seen. For what it's worth, ASUS has gone many more steps ahead of Razer to really sell you this phone. Starting with the phone itself, it features the gamery aesthetic that plagues every gaming-centric computer out there. The front is all glass with cutouts at the top and bottom for a pair of stereo...

Check out these early prototypes of the Nokia 8 Sirocco
Juho Sarvikas is HMD's Chief Product Officer, he's behind the latest crop of Nokia phones. He decided to share part of the development process by tweeting out photos of early Nokia 8 Sirocco prototypes, as well as Nokia 1 and 8110 4G. The Sirocco was code named "Avenger" mostly because the team thought it sounded cool rather than because it was seeking vengeance. Sarvikas is especially proud of how the side bezels turned out. Nokia 8 Sirocco early prototypes Here are the Nokia 1 and the banana phone too. Notice how the finish on some of these looks "layered" - a definite...
Nokia phone with a Snapdragon 710 chipset may be coming this autumn
It looks like the Snapdragon 710 chipset is a hit with phone makers. Even Google may be working on a mid-range Pixel with the new AI-focused chipset. And so is HMD. A new Nokia will reportedly launch in the Autumn/Winter period (possibly at IFA in September). It's codenamed Phoenix and will use the S710 chip, so it could be a follow-up to the Nokia 7 plus or another Plus model. Both chips are essentially mid-range versions of the flagship Snapdragons. The 710 features two Cortex-A75 derived "big" cores and six A55-based "little" ones. And it uses a 6-series Adreno GPU, which...
Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite gets certified
Xiaomi phones have been frequently popping up on TENAA and other regulatory websites lately. The latest bit of info comes from the FCC, where Xiaomi devices got approved, and the same model numbers popped at Singapore's Communications Authority. The more interesting part is that under "Marketing Name", the Xiaomi M1805D1SG is listed as Mi A2 Lite, suggesting the arrival of a cheaper Mi A2. The listings reveal only technical details like bands and frequencies for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections, but they come just in time for a follow-up of the Xiaomi Mi 6X announcement last...

Sadly, apart of the Key2 moniker and event date and time, the invite images - shared officially by BlackBerry through Weibo - don't reveal anything new about the device. For those looking to know more, the company recently released a teaser video for the dual camera-totting handset - you can take a look that here. Source | Via
