Sony Xperia XZ1 currently going for $590 in US ($110 discount)

The Sony Xperia XZ1 has received another price cut in the US. A quick look at the flagship device's listing on Amazon reveals it's currently going for as low as $589, which if you compare, translates into a discount of around $110. It's the blue variant that's going for $589 - others are a bit expensive, going for up to $599.99. But still, even if you buy any of the higher priced models, you end up saving at-least $100, which is not bad at all. There's currently no information on when the promo ends, so those interested in availing it may have to act fast. Source

Arriving as OxygenOS 4.5.14, the update brings along a bunch of changes, including fix for the Wi-Fi WPA2 security issue (also known as the KRACK vulnerability). Other changes include support for Airtel VoLTE in India and Band 66 of Freedom in Canada. In addition, there are also some battery usage-related as well as GPS-related optimizations. Finally, some usual bug fixes are included as well. Source

HTC U11+ almost became the Pixel 2 XL

Google's new Pixel 2 devices are each manufactured by a different phone maker. HTC made the Google Pixel 2 while the larger Google Pixel 2 XL was contracted by LG. However, this was not the plan from the very beginning. A new report shines some light on a canceled device, one that would eventually be released as the HTC U11+ on the morning of November 2. According to The Verge "a source familiar with HTC" confirmed that the very HTC device that was announced early Thursday morning is synonymous with the Google device codenamed "muskie". The muskie was originally intended to be the direct...

iPhone X torn down on video, reveals dual batteries

The Apple iPhone X has been covered extensively since a select number of YouTube personalities got their hands on the phone ahead of the launch date. The iPhone X officially becomes available tomorrow, November 3. So as people line up or eagerly await the arrival of the big brown UPS truck to their homes, the iPhone X has already been torn down on video. Interestingly. The overall structure of the iPhone X is similar to the how iPhones were built in the past: The display is removed from the top and hinges at the top. The iPhone X's display is connected to the board on its right side, so...

Qualcomm claims Apple shared its trade secrets with Intel in new lawsuit

The ongoing, worldwide legal war between Qualcomm and Apple definitely isn't stopping anytime soon. Today the chip producer has filed a new lawsuit against the iPhone maker, and this one could be quite bad for Apple if Qualcomm's allegations are proved truthful. Qualcomm says Apple "exercised its commercial leverage" to demand "unprecedented access" to its "very valuable and highly confidential software, including source code". We're talking modem firmware, by the way - Apple has been buying mobile data modems from Qualcomm for years. With the iPhone 7, however, the company has also...

Class action lawsuit in the works against Google for Pixel 2 XL issues

Google's Pixel 2, and the Pixel 2 XL more than that, have definitely bin hit by quite a few issues since their launch last month. While the bigger model has had more problems, some Pixel 2 units did exhibit weird clicking and whistling. On the other hand, various Pixel 2 XL phones have been caught suffering from burn-in, and even a "black smear". Google may get in a lot of trouble over these things soon, as a law firm is currently investigating whether there's enough to justify a class action against the company. Google Pixel 2 XL We're talking about Girard Gibbs, which...

KGI: 2018 iPhone X will keep 6P rear camera lens design

Often reliable KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in a memo to investors that it is highly unlikely that Apple will integrate a 7P (seven-lens plastic array) or 2G3P (two glass, three plastic) design in the iPhone X successor's camera. His statement is based mainly on the fact that Apple has the most advanced camera platform right now with the 6P design. The current camera specs help the iPhone X to "strike a phenomenal balance between picture quality and form factor design", says Kuo. Switching to a new design might improve aperture performance, and that's it. Another reason that Apple...

LG V30 owners in Korea can now preview Oreo beta

LG is offering V30 owners in South Korea a chance to preview Android 8.0 Oreo before its official December rollout. All you need to do is register interest through LG's Quick Help app and LG will send a firmware update within this month. LG will use the customer feedback to improve the final Android 8.0 firmware. The maker offered something similar last year - 2,000 LG G5 owners were given the chance to preview Andorid 7.0 Nougat before it was finalized. Source

Razer Phone camera samples from our tour of London

London is a beautiful city and it gave us an opportunity to take a bunch of great sample photos with the newly introduced Razer Phone. We used the main camera, tried HDR mode, tested the tele photo camera and snapped plenty of selfies (some of which in HDR as well). We'll break down the images by category. Photos The Razer Phone features a 12MP camera with a bright f/1.8 lens. We have daytime shots, indoor shots and even a few night photos. Outdoor photos offer plenty of detail, though there's a warm tint and the colors are a tad oversaturated. The colors are pleasing if not always...

OnePlus CEO discusses decision to keep 3.5mm headphone jack

OnePlus already confirmed that the OnePlus 5T will have a headphone jack but now CEO Pete Lau discussed the company's choice in more detail. We think the key takeaway is this: "Sometimes, industry trends go against our core beliefs." It's good to see a company take a stand against user-unfriendly, fashion-driven choices. But OnePlus didn't make this choice lightly. It queried its users' preferences and considered the effects on sound quality. While aptX is supported (by the 3T and 5), the team still believes that wired audio offers the superior quality. Especially if you're shopping on...

Counterpoint: Oppo was the market leader in China in Q3

According to research agency Counterpoint, Oppo was the top smartphone vendor in China for the third quarter of 2017, marginally outshipping Huawei and vivo. Xiaomi and Apple complete the top 5. Counterpoint's market report gives an 18.9% Q3 share in China for Oppo during the quarter that ended in September compared to 18.6% for Huawei and vivo. Analysts use different methods so it's normal that their reports contain slightly different numbers. Just a few days ago Canalys released a report that put Huawei as the leader in China, over Oppo. That report cited a 5% fall in total...

Sony Xperia XZ Premium captures trampoline dodgeball at 960fps

What happens when you combine trampolines with dodgeball? The results include plenty of fast-paced aerial action, which are best viewed in slow motion. Enter the Motion Eye camera found on the Sony Xperia XZ1, XZ1 Compact and XZ Premium. Here are the results - they do look quite impressive. Sure, the video is grainy, but high frame rate cameras don't play well with indoor lighting (even the big ones need bright lights or ideally the sun). http://ift.tt/2yo03Ql And if you were in the mood for...

Caviar introduces iPhone X Tesla with solar panel on the back

The Russian company that makes customized iPhones with a golden plaque of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin now launched the iPhone X Tesla with a solar panel on the back. This is the second Caviar-modified Apple flagship this year after the meteorite-coated iPhone X in September. According to the company, you just need to leave your phone laying on its face, and the back gathers sunlight to charge the device. The body also has PVD coating and shockproof plate. There is also a golden plate next to the camera setup because why not. The company directly replaces the glass body with a...

OnePlus teases 5T with five teas

OnePlus posted a tea-ser... see, we can make puns too. The image below shows 5 cups of tea, a more than obvious hint at the upcoming OnePlus 5T. Earlier the company teased the portrait mode of the new camera and the presence of a headphone jack. What the OnePlus posts won't tell you - at least not yet - is that the phone is likely to be unveiled on November 16 and will feature an 18:9 screen and a 20MP + 20MP dual camera. A bit of OnePlus trivia: apparently the engineers like Masala chai. And no, it seems you can't buy one of those mugs (they are not in the Gear section of...

Also, the Life is HTC's first Android One phone. Not in the US, though. Speaking of the US, American viewers might want to stop the video after...

Razer Phone pricing info for Europe and North America

The Razer Phone is tied up in the gaming associations of its parent company, but there's another way to look at it - a competitively priced Android flagship. Believe it or not, you don't have to pay $1,000 for a Snapdragon 835 chipset and a 5.7" QHD screen (120Hz screen at that). Instead the pricing is as follows: $700 in the US, €750 in Europe and £700 in the UK. Pre-orders should start any moment now and sales in the launch countries kick off on November 17. Razerzone.com will be selling the phone online in the US and Canada, the United Kingdom and Ireland, Germany, France, Denmark...

HTC U11 Life hands-on review

Life is short... no, we mean Life is short for Lifestyle. The HTC U11 Life certainly enjoys fine living, but it won't make you spend your life at work. Affordability, flagship looks and respectable specs were the goals HTC set for itself when designing this phone.

HTC enters the bezel-less race with the U11+

It took HTC a while to get here, but it finally has a phone with a nearly bezel-free front. The U11+ has an 18:9 6.0-inch Super LCD6 of 1440x2880px resolution with Gorilla Glass 5 and no physical buttons on the front (the fingerprint scanner moved to the rear). On the back there's a 12MP UltraPixel 3 OIS camera with an f/1.7 aperture, 1.4µm pixels, UltraSpeed autofocus, and a dual-LED flash. Aside from that, the two models are almost identical. Regardless of where you buy your U11...
