Razer Phone 2 hands-on review

Everything about the Razer Phone 2 seems familiar, yet improved and refined. An experience quite similar to upgrading your computer's GPU or swapping your console for the next version - both notions which gamers are accustomed to and comfortable with. Still, the question remains as to whether the upgrade job was enough to mend all or at least most of the issues we found with the original Razer Phone.

Razer Phone 2 unveiled with S845 chip, improvements to the screen and camera

Gaming has become a dominant form of entertainment and gamers tend to be early adopters of cutting edge tech. The new Razer Phone 2 is an entertainment powerhouse with unique features and various improvements over the original. Let's start with the gaming features. The screen is a 5.7" IGZO LCD panel with QHD resolution instead - Razer believes 16:9 is best for multimedia. It did make the new screen 50% brighter than before, hitting 645 nits maximum (470 nits typical). The company claims that the new panel is better at preserving detail in dark scenes. The screen has retained the...

Razer was at the forefront of the new wave of gaming phones, unveiling its first Razer Phone about 11 months ago. Now it's time to bring out the new one - you can watch it happen live thanks to the livestream below. This is the YouTube stream, but this landing page also has a Twitch stream. Because of course it does, Razer knows its audience. The event starts at 1:30AM GMT, which is early in the morning in Hong Kong (9:30AM) and evening in San Francisco (6:30PM). We'll publish a hands-on review of the Razer Phone 2 as soon as possible. However, an Amazon listing already gave away...

Honor 8X reaches the UK, now available for £225

The Honor 8X has become available in the UK today. The phone was announced last month alongside its huge sibling, the Honor 8X Max, and is expected to be out in many territories in the next few weeks. In the UK, only Clove seems to have units in stock at the moment, which it will gladly sell to you for £225 SIM-free and unlocked. You can pick between black and blue color versions. If you want to buy from Honor's official online store, you can pre-order one now and shipping should happen on October 16 for the blue model, and October 18 for the black one. In that case you're also...

Honor 8X Max will be known as Huawei Enjoy Max in some markets

Huawei's sub-brand Honor unveiled the huge 8X Max last month alongside the smaller Honor 8X. Now it looks like the Honor 8X Max will be launched under a different name in some markets. Meet the Huawei Enjoy Max. The leaked press images of the handset were outed today by Evan Blass, aka @evleaks. As you'd expect in the case of a mere rebranding, the Enjoy Max looks exactly like the Honor 8X Max, save for Huawei's logo being plastered onto it instead of Honor's. Oh, and there's also the fake leather-like stitching on the back, which you surely noticed. The Enjoy Max eschews the glassy...

Nokia 7.1 Plus stops by Geekbench ahead of its announcement tomorrow

HMD Global is expected to make the Nokia 7.1 Plus official at an event tomorrow. Today someone in possession of a unit has decided to put it through the paces of Geekbench. As usual in such cases, this tells us a few things about the upcoming handset. First off, it's powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset, as rumored countless times before. This particular unit pairs that with 6GB of RAM, but there may be other versions with 4GB. The phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo, perhaps disappointingly, considering that Pie has been out for a while now and HMD itself is already in the...

Samsung said to remove the 3.5mm jack from the Note10 and Galaxy S11

Yep, you read the headline right - the report is all about the 2019 Note10 and the 2020 Galaxy S11 and even though it seems a bit stretched, the planning of a flagship product goes at least a year back so it might be legit. And it comes from a fairly reputable source, after all. The rumor says that Samsung is considering removing the headphone jack on both of its 2019 flagships. The reasoning behind this is that wireless headphones are becoming increasingly popular and according to Strategy Analytics, the global wireless earphone market will expand by 73.9 million units by 2019 and...

Google confirms the Pixel 3 and 3 XL only have gesture-based navigation

We've been going in that direction for a while now and it appears we are picking up speed - the gesture-based navigation will no longer be an option going forward. While last year's Pixel 2 and 2 XL had the option of choosing between the good old software buttons and the new Android 9.0 Pie gestures, the new Pixel 3 and 3 XL cannot disable the gestures. It was further confirmed in a tweet by @madebygoogle and it looks like Google's team isn't talking only about the new duo of Pixels. We could very well see all phones adopt the new way of navigating through menus. Hi! Pixel 3...

Deal: Pocophone F1 for 75% off (and a catch), F2 coming in half a year

Xiaomi's India branch is offering discounts as fast as Manu Kumar Jain can tweet about them. The one that caught our attention is this Pocophone F1 buyback program. The attention-grabbing headline is that it drops the cost of ownership to INR 5,800 - $78/€68. That's insane, yes, but there's a catch. You go and buy the phone from Flipkart at the (almost) full price of INR 21,000 (a small discount is applied). Then, in 6-8 months when the new Pocophone becomes available, Flipkart will buy your old model for INR 14,700. That's for the 6/64GB model. Here's another look at the math in tabular...

Samsung Galaxy A9 quad-camera detailed: tele, standard, wide, depth

We've had megahertz wars, megapixel wars and now camera count wars. The Galaxy A7 (2018) had three on its back, but Samsung is just getting started. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy A9 will go up to four. Here's a leaked overview of what each camera does. The new module is the 10MP telephoto camera with f/2.4 lens. It offers a 2x optical zoom compared to the main camera. Only Samsung's premium phones have tele cams and they all had 12MP sensors, so this is a brand new camera module. The main camera of the Galaxy A9 features a 24MP sensor and a bright f/1.7 aperture. It might even be the main...

Razer Phone 2 appears on Amazon, adds RGB lighting, wireless charging and IP67

The sequel to the Razer Phone is coming later today, but you can already find it on Amazon Italy. The design hasn't changed much, most noticeable is the new position of the dual camera. Or should we say "second most noticeable"? The specs mention "Razer Chroma RGB logo", so the most-wished feature will be present - configurable RGB backlighting for the logo. "Chroma" is Razer's platform for customizable RGB lighting for gaming PCs and accessories, e.g. it can sync the colors of all LEDs. Other changes include the Snapdragon 845 chipset - a gaming phone needs extra GPU power. Cooling is...

Google promo videos show Pixel 3, Pixel Slate, Home Hub and Pixel Stand

Google's last night event was pretty saturated with new hardware even though the Pixel 3 and 3 XL weren't that surprising to people who keep track of the leaks for the past few months. However, there were a few details, especially software ones, that we weren't aware of. Alongside the phones Google announced a slew of new hardware - Pixel Slate, Home Hub, Pixel Stand and new Chromecast. And you can now get to know them better by watching this playlist of product promo videos by Google. And once you've already met the new Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones, make sure to check out...

Infographic: The Path to Google Pixels

No, this isn't the next edition of Counterclockwise, but it may as well be. Yesterday we saw the introduction of the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL and their price may have brought you back to the time when cheap but powerful Nexus phones were available. Of course Android's 10 year long history didn't start with the Nexus. The infographic below (created by Hometop) is a timeline of the best Google phones. Did you know that the Nexus S was the first smartphone certified by NASA to go on the International Space Station? And it wasn't the last Google phone to go to the final frontier. That and...

Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) shows up on Geekbench

The rumored Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) shapes up to be an exciting mid-range smartphone. The quad-camera setup has been mentioned by several sources while today a benchmark profile reveals what's ticking under the hood. As you can see, the multi-core score is 5844 and the sheet gives away a Snapdragon 660 SoC paired with 6GB of RAM, running Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box and a model number SM-A9200. That's a considerable step up from the triple camera Galaxy A7. But not getting Android 9.0 Pie months after it's out is still rather disappointing. The previous leak suggested that a...

Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL pricing and availability roundup

With Google announcing its duo of flagship smartphones yesterday, many of you are probably wondering when will they arrive in your home country and at what price. Unfortunately, availability remains a big issue with the Pixel phones even though the lineup has matured and it's now in its third generation. Pre-orders have already started in all markets to get the phones, except for India and Taiwan. This year Google has added four more markets to the rather short list that now consists of 13 countries - UK, US, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, Ireland,...
