And this may be it, the Redmi Pro 2, which can be seen in the render below shared on Weibo. The phone has a pop-up selfie camera for a notch-less, hole-less screen. A device matching that description was recently seen in the hands of Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun. Google Duplex rolling-out to iOS and non Pixel devices in the US

Announced back in 2018, Google Duplex is an extension of the company's assistant, which can make reservations for restaurants on your behalf with a surprisingly human voice. It can understand contextual information coming from the other side of the call and answer a limited number of questions if asked. It was so far an exclusive feature for US Pixel owners but now Duplex is making its grand rollout in the states. The service caused some controversy when it was initially demoed at Google I/O 2018 due to the human-like tone and pronunciation it used during calls. Google later addressed...

Google Pixel 4 mentioned on AOSP discussion by a Google developer

There's still plenty of time until the next Google Pixels are announced but given that the Pixel 3 and 3 XL from last year were one of the most heavily leaked devices, it's no surprise that we are already starting to hear some small tidbits about the Pixel 4. In an AOSP (Android Open Source Project) discussion, a Google developer mentioned that they are testing the new software on the Pixel 3 and if everything turns out to be okay, they will move onto Pixel 4 and so on. The plan was to first deploy this on Pixel 3 and make sure that everything actually works. Then move on to Pixel 4...

Qualcomm and Samsung won't sell 5G modems to Apple

Taiwan's Electronic Times reports that both Qualcomm and Samsung have turned down the opportunity to supply 5G modems for Apple. Given the global patent war between Apple and Qualcomm, the San Diego company's snub is not a huge surprise. Samsung, however, reportedly gave another reason - not enough supply of its Exynos 5100 5G modem. Even if Samsung could boost production capacity, it will have leverage over Apple in the negotiations (and Apple loves squeezing its component suppliers for better margins). Apple's current preferred source of wireless modems, Intel, just doesn't have a 5G...

Japan Display to supply OLED screens for next Apple Watch

Japan Display (JDI) went through some rough years as Apple started its transition to OLED screens. The company and its LCD-only production lines ended up unable to compete and its very existence was uncertain. Yesterday news broke out that Chinese investors and the Japanese government were ready to pump in close to $1 billion to help JDI enter the OLED production game. Today, Reuters brings more good news for JDI, reporting that the company will supply Apple with OLED displays for the upcoming Apple Watch. Samsung and LG have dominated the OLED deliveries for iPhones and Apple Watches...

Back in December last year, Oppo's spin-off Realme said that it would release Android Pie update for its smartphones in Q1 or Q2 of 2019. This information comes through Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth who took to Twitter to share an OTA schedule for the company's entire lineup. Realme will roll out Android Pie-based ColorOS 6 for Realme 1, 2, 2 Pro, C1, and U1 in June. That's as specific as it gets - there's no order or weeks quoted, but it's still a fairly small...

OnePlus working on DC dimming feature to battle low-brightness OLED PWM

OnePlus is working on enabling DC dimming on its smartphones in a future update. This was revealed by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau, who was shown a demo of the feature. To clarify, at low brightness OLED panels will pulse and flicker due to a process called Pulse Width Modulation (or PWM), making them uncomfortable for some. An alternative to using PWM is DC dimming. It reduces the DC current to the OLED panel, lowering its brightness and to a degree, its quality. Xiaomi notably used DC dimming in the Black Shark 2 smartphone and will reportedly bring the feature to the Mi 9. Back to...

While the chipset, RAM, and OS were already known, the new info is that the phone will have Full HD+ resolution and 19.5:9 tall screen. Back in early 2018, the Zenfone 5 was among the first Androids with iPhone X-esque notch, and we are curious to see if Zenfone...

Samsung preparing a smaller Galaxy Note10

This is the first time we hear something about a smaller Galaxy Note but it won't be the first time Samsung has done something like this. What might prompt Samsung to do it once more is believed to be the success of the Galaxy S10e. The most affordable of the early 2019 Samsung Galaxy flagships is very well-received by the media and the consumers so Samsung will try to build on that. Also, if the upcoming Galaxy Note10 really is built around a 6.7-inch display, there will be plenty of users looking for a smaller size, which the older 6.4-inch diagonal of the Galaxy Note9 will enable...

Sony Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra's Android 9.0 Pie update restarted

It seems some Sony Xperia XA2 and Xperia XA2 Ultra users are now receiving the Android 9.0 Pie update on their phones. We received a tip from a reader from Myanmar but it's likely that many more countries are getting the over the air firmware as we speak. The firmware 50.2.A.0.352 is different from the 50.2.A.0.342 that was seeded to users in Russia last February, but it resulted in some bricked phones, so it was halted until issues were resolved. Android 9.0 Pie firmware update Do you own an Xperia XA2/XA2 Ultra, have you received the Android 9 OTA? Do you have any issues? Drop...

Apple iPhones get cheaper in China, but still more expensive than competitors

Apple has lowered prices for its iPhones once again, following a domestic tax reduction policy. Since iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max are the most expensive, they experienced the biggest drop in pricing, and now will cost up to CNY500 less (about $75). However, analysts predict that it Huawei will keep dominating the smartphone market as the change is too small to eradicate its price advantage. The iPhone XS currently starts from CNY8,199 or over $1,200. For comparison, the Mate 20 costs less than half what the Apple flagship goes for, while even the most expensive Mate...

The iPad Mini 5 stays true to its Apple heritage with horrendous reparability

Apple doesn't want you to service its products at home. That's evident by the sheer difficulty of the task of opening up an Apple product. Take the new Apple iPad Mini 5, which was torn down by iFixit - it got a repairability score of 2 out of 10 because of the huge amount of adhesive used to glue together the slate, because the battery is quite difficult to get to, and because you need to remove the home button in order to swap out the display. Hey, at least all the screws can be undone by a single Phillips screwdriver. Despite its unfriendliness to would-be repairers, the Apple...

The FCC listing doesn't tell us much about the Galaxy A20e, but it does reveal that the smartphone will sport a 5.8-inch screen which is smaller than the display on Samsung Galaxy A20. This also suggests that earlier rumors about the Galaxy A20e packing a 3,000 mAh battery were correct. The FCC listing further reveals single band Wi-Fi support on the A20e, but other than that, there's not much to...
