While Sony seemed timid the last year, now it's ready to roar again. It poured all its tech prowess into the making of the Xperia XZ Premium, which marks a number of world firsts. The XZs is a mid-season upgrade of the former top dog, borrowing the Motion Eye camera from the Premium. Then there are the super mid-rangers - the XA1 impresses with its flagship camera, the XA1 Ultra with its selfie cam.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium and XZs unveiled
Meet the future of Sony flagships - well, what will be future. The Sony Xperia XZ Premium and its 5.5" 4K are scheduled to land in "late Spring" while the smaller 5.2" Sony Xperia XZs will arrive earlier (in April) to dazzle us with its cool new camera, which Sony will be marketing as Motion Eye. Sony Xperia XZ Premium That's what Sony calls the camera used on both the XZ Premium and XZs. Its crowning achievement is 960fps slow motion video - that allows to slow down time 4x slower than current cameraphones. It also features an "anti-distortion shutter" which minimizes rolling shutter....
Sony Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra go official with thin bezels, great cameras
Before the XZ came about, our favorite letters of the Xperia alphabet were "XA". Sony revamped both the bezel-light 5" mid-ranger and the selfie-holic 6" Ultra model under the new XA1 heading. Seriously, though, the cameras on these two phones punch well above their weight category. Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra We remember the previous Ultra as being only the second phone with an OIS-enabled selfie camera (behind the HTC 10 flagship). The Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra continues that proud tradition with an impressive 16MP 1/2.6" sensor coupled with a 23mm (equiv.) f/2.0 lens with autofocus and a...
Check out our Sony Xperia XZ Premium and XZs 960fps slow-mo videos
Sony's latest camera sensor features on-board memory making it the first of its kind. This sensor will debut on the Sony Xperia XZs and a little later on the Sony Xperia XZ Premium. Memory makes the sensor versatile and allows it to be used for many things, but we think the most fun feature is the 960fps slow motion. Video is recorded at 720p resolution and at any point you can switch from real time to Matrix-like slow motion. The memory is enough for only a blink of an eye (0.18s), but a lot can happen in that tiny window when time slows to a crawl. Current phones top out at 240fps,...
Watch the Sony MWC press event here
Sony's event should be one of the most action-packed of this year's MWC - yesterday a total of four Xperias got leaked, and some clarifications is undoubtedly needed as to which is which. An Xperia X successor was recently leaked so that should be one, an XZ Premium slide suggests we might be seeing another 4K phone display this year and an Xperia XA follow up is possibly in the works. It will all become clear anytime soon, watch it here as it unfolds.
Over 900,000 Sony PlayStation VR units have been sold in four months
Sony has announced that it has sold over 900,000 units (915,000 to be precise) of its PlayStation VR headset so far. This was revealed by Andrew House, global chief executive of Sony Interactive Entertainment (the Japanese company's video gaming division). The headset was released back in October last year for $399. House also revealed that the company's internal goal was to sell a million units by mid-April (i.e, in first six months), which looks quite achievable now. The PlayStation VR looks to be quite ahead of its competitors - according to a report from research firm SuperData...

As for availability, the...
MWC 2017: Alcatel A5 LED, A3, U5, PLUS 12
TCL might have the BlackBerry KEYone for showboating purposes, but it will be its Alcatel-branded phones that will sell in heaps. The company brought three of those to MWC this year, plus a Windows 10 2-in-1, and we got a chance to play around with all of them.
The Alcatel A5 LED has an illuminated back, the A3 and U5 are value-minded
In a rather untypical Alcatel move for a major event, the company unveiled just four devices at this year's MWC (or should we say 'so far'?). Those include a trio of smartphones and a Windows 10 2-in-1. Alcatel A5 LED The Alcatel A5 LED is the most interesting of the phone bunch - on the one hand, it boasts the best specs, but on the other - its back is lit. Literally. First things first, though - the A5 LED sports a 5.2-inch 720 IPS display, and is powered by the Mediatek MT6753 chipset, an octa-core 1.5GHz CPU at the helm. There are 2GB of RAM on board and internal storage...

Sprint and AT&T, on the other hand...

Greenpeace protester makes a guest appearance at Samsung's keynote
During Samsung's press event at MWC, a protestor stood at the foot of the stage during Samsung's keynote at MWC. The sign referred to the unknown fate of the millions of Galaxy Note7 units that are sitting in a facility somewhere. The sign sends a really simple message. It's a recycle symbol with the words "re-think, reuse, recycle". The middle of the triangle reads: "It's simple" and a hashtag that refers to the #GalaxyNote7. Greenpeace protestor takes the stage at Samsung #MWC2017 conference. "I think you've made your point" says Samsung exec. http://pic.twitter.com/wdajZZ9vK0 Andrew Lanxon...
MWC 2017: Nokia 6, 5, 3 and 3310
It's like we woke up in an alternate universe - one where Nokia chose Android over Windows Phone. And oh boy, it is glorious. The brand has a lot of catching up to do but it gets close to the front in a single bound.
LG G6 disassembly reveals an advanced heat pipe, sealed-in Li-Po battery
Dedicated teardown and disassembly outlets like iFixit won't have much work to do on the G6, other than the odd repair guide - LG took its latest smartphone apart right in front of us. Hint: it's good to start by removing the SIM card tray. Popping off the Gorilla Glass 5 back panel reveals a rather massive fingerprint reader assembly complete with controller, all mounted to the cover. On the phone we see the wireless charging coil, but as you've probably already found out, that's only going to be present on the US versions of the G6. Sad. Screwdriver at the ready! Removing a...
Samsung Galaxy S8 to be unveiled on March 29th
A Samsung Galaxy smartphone used to headline the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona for years but after the Galaxy Note7 fiasco last fall the company decided to postpone production and unveiling of its newest flagship. But after the Samsung keynote on Sunday night, we finally know when the Galaxy S8 will be revealed - March 29. The Galaxy Unpacked event will be available live on Samsung Galaxy's website. Samsung presented the Galaxy Tab S3, an Android tablet and Galaxy Book with 10.6" display and a bigger one with 12" diagonal, the latter running Windows 10 and coming with a...
HP Pro x2 is a rugged convertible tablet with Windows 10
HP is also at the Mobile World Congress and it has its own understanding of what mobile stands for. The company has launched a Windows 10 device named HP Pro X2 with a detachable keyboard and a stylus. HP Pro x2 was launched today at MWC in Barcelona. The device is a convertible laptop/tablet that has a 12" display with FullHD resolution. It is developed to work with a detachable keyboard and a stylus, much like a Surface device or the Android-powered Galaxy Tab S3. It is also extremely tough - the Pro x2 is designed to withstand MIL-STD-810G tests. And if this isn't enough, you can...
MWC 2017: Huawei P10, P10 Plus, Watch 2 hands-on
Today was a big day for Huawei at the MWC expo in Barcelona. The company announced its new flagships - the P10 and P10 Plus, both featuring Leica lens on the rear and front cameras. Then we saw two new Watch 2 smartwatches to make an appearance. And finally, the latest EMUI 5.1 jam-packed with optimizations made an appearance.
Moto G5 and G5 Plus promo videos galore
Lenovo just announced the new Moto G5 and G5 Plus smartphones at the MWC. The two phones continue the Moto G legacy of offering an adequate amount of features at an attractive price. The company has now released some videos for the new phones that highlight some of the features of the new phones. The focus here is mostly on the bigger and the more expensive G5 Plus, which comes with a few extra bells and whistles. You can watch all the videos below and let us know what you thought of them and the phones themselves.
New Moto Mods transform your phone into personal assistant or gaming console
Motorola also launched plenty of gadgets at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Along with the long-awaited midrangers Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus, new Moto Mods were also revealed. The most impressive of them is an Amazon Alexa MotoMod. Moto is aiming to change the way you use your Moto Z and the latest addition to the Mod family is Amazon Alexa Moto Mod that easily does things for you on the go - setting the temperature at home when you leave work, requesting a Uber or writing a shopping list without actually having to open a text app like some kind of early-2016 caveman. The...
Huawei P10 Lite leaks ahead of proper announcement
Huawei unveiled the P10 and P10 Plus flagships today, but didn't shed any light on a P10 Lite model. But it just couldn't stay away from the news. A few retailers in the Netherlands have listed the Huawei P10 Lite with official pictures, specs, price, and everything. Maybe they did that prematurely, maybe not, we can't say for sure. Anyway, the fact is that all the details about the Huawei P10 Lite are now out in the open. The phone won't come with the same design as the P10 duo, but it's quite attractive nevertheless. It has a metal frame and a dual-glass design, with its...
Latest Samsung Gear VR comes with a standalone controller
Just because there's no Galaxy S8 flagship to announce just yet, it doesn't mean Samsung can't unveil the next model Gear VR. This latest version of the headset comes with an accessory of its own - a standalone controller. The headset comes with 42mm lenses that deliver a 101-degree field of view and feature an advanced distortion correction tech to minimize motion sickness. It's compatible with both microUSB and USB Type-C devices, so every existing Samsung flagship since the Galaxy S6, plus the upcoming ones, will work with the new Gear VR. The controller is the novelty...
Huawei P10 Lite leaks ahead of imminent announcement
Huawei unveiled the P10 and P10 Plus flagships today, but didn't shed some light on the P10 Lite. It's no secret the Lite model is coming very soon, probably in a matter of days or weeks. But the P10 Lite just couldn't stay away from the news. A few retailers in the Netherlands have published the Huawei P10 Lite with official pictures, specs, price, and everything. Maybe they did that premature, maybe not, we can't say for sure. Anyway, the Huawei P10 Lite has been already fully expose and we know everything. The phone won't come with the same design as the P10 duo, though it's...

Huawei introduces Emotion UI 5.1, focuses on performance and usability
The Huawei P10 duo may have been the star of the company's event in Barcelona, but EMUI v5.1 is also a big part of it. The new Emotion version, which premieres with the P10 and P10 Plus, will become available later on other devices as well, and it brings quite a few improvements. One of the big improvements in the EMUI 5.1 concerns the overall performance. Huawei has introduced new features such as Ultra Memory and Ultra Response. Ultra Memory is a new algorithm with focus on recycling and thus it frees RAM faster. It also learns from your app habits and speeds up app...
MWC 2017: Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 hands-on
Just as expected, the Samsung Galaxy S8 pair did not make their debut at MWC 2017. The Korean giant has a more lavish introduction planned soon. But, even while holding out on us, Samsung still brought quite a few goodies to introduce at the Barcelona venue. The Galaxy Tab S3 is definitely among the most exciting, as it has the potential to breathe new life into the company's stagnant tablet business.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is a new powerhouse tablet, with a finger on productivity
Samsung used this year's MWC venue to throw a curve ball in the somewhat docile waters of the tablet market. The Galaxy Tab S3 is sure to stir up some commotion, as it is a true powerhouse offer, tricked-out by the Korean giant with all the bells and whistles, including its coveted S Pen tech and a convenient keyboard attachment. The 9.7-inch tablet definitely takes after its Tab S2 predecessor, yet clearly pushes further into high-end productivity territory. It appears Samsung has decided to put forth its best foot forward at making an Android 2-in-1 to take on laptop-like...
Samsung Galaxy Book 10.6 and Galaxy Book 12 hands-on
Samsung might have skipped on smartphone announcements at this year's MWC, but that doesn't mean the Korean giant didn't take the event seriously. On the contrary, the Barcelona venue saw a total of three tablet announcements, all clearly geared towards a more serious, productivity-oriented crowd. Sure, you could argue that the 10-bit HDR panel and 4-speaker AKG setup on the Tab S3 shout multimedia loud and clear. However, beyond that, Samsung's new lineup is all business, especially its two new Windows-based 2-in-1 offers. The Galaxy Book 10.6 and Galaxy Book 12 both run Windows 10...
Samsung event at MWC is live on YouTube
Samsung decided to postpone their Galaxy S8 unveiling for March 29 but what is an MWC in Barcelona without the participation of the Korean company. We will see a Galaxy Tab S3 tablet that was leaked little by little in the last several days. There is also a VR set with a remote control to be launched at the event. Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 will have a 9.7" display with 2,048x1,536 resolution and be powered by Snapdragon 820. It will come with an S Pen, have pogo pins for attaching to a keyboard and will cost around $750 when launched on April 7 in Europe.
Moto G5 and G5 Plus get a metal build, Snapdragons 430&625 inside
Lenovo/Motorola has announced yet another generation of the hugely successful Moto G - we are now at 5 - and that means the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus are official. Sharing an overall similar design and metal build, the two smartphones are meant to bring a touch of premium to a model range governed by budget considerations. Motorola Moto G5 The plain Moto G5 is built around a 5-inch FullHD IPS display, covered with Gorilla Glass 3. At the helm is the Snapdragon 430 chipset with a 1.4GHz octa-core processor doing the number crunching. There are 2GB of RAM on board and storage is either...
The Nokia 3310 is back, but its not exactly a pretty sight
Just like the rumor-vine predicted, HMD didn't skip on the opportunity to ride the nostalgia wave and reincarnate the legendary Nokia 3310 for a second go on the 2017 mobile scene. We are sure opinions will be polarized on the EUR 49 feature-phone, but that definitely fits into the whole idea. Whether you find it unsightly, or enjoy its colorful and playful looks, the new 3310 will definitely get fans talking, even if not necessarily buying. Again, as far as design goes, you will just have to judge for yourself. The new 3310 measure only 115.6 x 51 x 12.8 mm and is plastic all...
Nokia 5 and 3 go official, special edition Nokia 6 Arte Black joins them
And they're back! Nokia phones are going global after the initial trial run of the Nokia 6 in China. Also announced today are the Nokia 5 and Nokia 3, both finely-crafted phones running pure Android. All three will come out in Q2 in single and dual-SIM forms. Nokia 6 There's almost nothing new here other than the price - the Nokia 6 will cost 230 and will launch in Q2 this year. In fact, all three phones will come out in Q2. But there was a surprise - the special edition Nokia 6 Arte Black (remember the Artes?). It's distinguished by a piano black finish and extra memory. And...
Watch Nokia's return to the MWC, starring the new 3310 and Android phones
We're sweating with anticipation here - the Nokia brand is back at the Mobile World Congress. We've seen Nokia phones steal the show many times over the years and today may be no different. This is an event you might want to watch live rather than read about tomorrow, because much like the brand, the legendary Nokia 3310 is about to be reborn. We're live at the Barcelona grounds so we'll get some first-hand impressions. For those at home, you can follow along by watching this 360° video (shot on the Nokia Ozo VR camera, of course). There's more to it than just an immortal feature...
Huawei P10 to be available across all major carriers in the UK
If you are in the UK and have been considering the new Huawei P10, you will be glad to know that the phone will be available through all major carriers. According to Android Central, the Huawei P10 will be available through EE, Vodafone, O2, and Three. Apart from that, the phone will also be available through Carphone Warehouse. This information was confirmed by Huawei Vice President of Handsets Product Line, Bruce Lee. Huawei did not confirm the availability of the larger
LG G6 promo videos outline key features and design principles
LG just announced the G6 smartphone - arguably the most important launch of this year's MWC (okay, not counting the Nokia 3310 reboot). We got a chance to spend some hands-on time with the G6, but if you'd like to see LG's perspective, here's a couple of videos. The first one is basically a video specsheet with a focus on the camera. You get acquainted with the dual setup and the various novel shooting modes, before moving on to more practical stuff like water and dust resistance (that bit of the video is really painful to watch), battery saver, and user interface. The second video...
Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 pricing and launch date revealed
Yesterday, we shared the leaked specs sheet of Samsung's upcoming tablet. The Galaxy Tab S3 is an Android Nougat tablet with an S Pen and pogo pins for a hardware connection to a keyboard. Today, an early listing on the website of UK retailer John Lewis reveals the expected price for the device, which is the hefty £600. Ouch! Screenshot of Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 listing The tablet is expected to be officially unveiled by Samsung later today, but since John Lewis is one of the biggest department store chains in the UK, we'd say the listing is credible. The price in British pounds translates...
Huawei Watch 2 comes in two versions, there's a Porsche Design model too
One of the best Android Wear watches just got a sequel - the Huawei Watch 2 splits into two personalities, one sporty and one dressy. Huawei's cooperation with Porsche Design is back with an exclusive look too. The Huawei Watch 2 classic has a 316L stainless steel body available in Titanium Grey with 22mm watch bands. The watch itself measures 45mm in diameter. Note the minute divisions on the bezel, those are new as is the two button design. Both watches are IP68 waterproof and have extensive exercise-tracking features, it's just that the non-classic model is built out of plastic...
Huawei P10 and P10 Plus are now official with Leica selfies
Huawei pulled the wraps off the Huawei P10 and P10 Plus at the MWC in Barcelona just moments ago. The new flagship duo improves on design, display, chipset, and of course, the iconic Leica camera setups. Huawei P10 Huawei P10 has a refreshed design with a 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass 5 at the front, and an all-metal backplate with hyper-diamond cut and sandblasted finish. There are two iPhone 7-like antenna bands at the back, which are almost unnoticeable on the Graphite Black model. The P10 has a very unique appearance though, thanks to the long piece of glass emphasizing the...
Google Assistant is coming to a droid near you
Google Assistant is finally making its way to all Android smartphones running OS version 6.0 and 7.0. The personal assistant will become available to English users in the US this week, followed by English users in Australia, Canada and the UK. German-speaking users in Germany can expect it around the same time too. Google says it will continue adding more languages this year. Users will begin seeing Google Assistant as it's gradually being rolled out through a Google Play Services update. Currently Google Assistant is available on the Pixel and Pixel XL, Google Home, Google's...
LG G6 vs. LG G5: quad-cam comparo
One of the more fun takes on the dual-cam concept, the G5's normal/ultra-wide setup was easily the best bit about LG's last year flagship (after the modular concept got scrapped). The brand new LG G6 is taking the concept even further by improving the ultra-wide angle one. Instead of a 16MP/8MP setup, the two cameras on the G6 are now equipped with identical sensors - the 13MP Sony IMX258 Type 1/3.06" imager with 1.12µ pixels. Once again we have two quite different lenses - one is an ultra wide-angle one with f/2.4 aperture and 125-degree coverage, the other is an f/1.8...
MWC 2017: LG G6 hands-on
Out walks the flagship, in comes the bestseller - with the G6 LG isn't striving for a top spot in the specs race, instead it's aiming to appeal to a broader audience and trying to differentiate the Gs from the Vs in the lineup.
LG G6 is official with FullVision 18:9 display, Snapdragon 821 chipset
The smartphone star of MWC 2017 has been announced - this is the LG G6. A 'Full-vision' display, water and dust protection plus some careful impact resistant design, cameras aplenty, tried and tested internals - the G6 may no longer be the flagship (the V-series will fly that banner from now on), but it sure sounds like flagships should be wary. A lot of the G6's novelty stems from its display - a 5.7-inch IPS LCD panel that takes up most of the phone's front - it's why LG calls it FullVision. The screen has an odd 18:9 aspect ratio (or, as math would have it - 2:1) and a resolution of...
LG G6 launch is live-streamed, here's how to watch it
We've seen numerous leaks and heard even more rumors about LG's new flagship G6. The LG G6 Day is finally here and we'll see who was right and who was wrong. The event will be streamed live on LG Mobile's Facebook page and YouTube channel and starts at 12:00 CET (GMT+1). The device we'll see at the event is trying to get LG's Mobile division back on its feet after the financial fiasco that was LG G5. And since the main competitor Samsung is withholding the next Galaxy device, LG went all in and teased some of the features little by little. So far we know the device will be water-...
Images of four Sony Xperias leak ahead of tomorrow's announcement
Early Monday morning Sony will show off its new phones at the MWC - it could unveil as many as 5 handsets. Official images of four of them snuck out a day early. This first phone looks like the Xperia XZ as does the second one. But check out this leaked image of the XZ Premium. The camera assembly is rotated 90° like the second phone here and unlike the current XZ. So let's call the second phone the Xperia XZ Premium. This leaves the first phone to be the Xperia BlancBright, which is rumored to have a 5.5" QHD screen, Snapdragon 653 chipset and the same camera as the XZ Premium. It...
