Huawei keeps expanding its portfolio of smartphones in all price categories, with the latest JKM-AL00 device, expected to be named Huawei Y9 (2019), arriving on TENAA two weeks ago. Now the specs were also outed and looking at them, Huawei is aiming even more at the midrange market with another Kirin 710 smartphone. Huawei Y9 (2019) from all sides The Huawei Y9 (2019) is listed with an octa-core CPU going as high as 2.2 GHz. RAM will be either 4 GB or 6 GB, and storage will also be available in two options - 64 GB and 128 GB, with a microSD slot on board to provide more...

Week 38 in review: Samsung, Xiaomi and Meizu bring new smartphones

A few interesting announcements took place in week 38 and three of those came courtesy of Samsung - the first mid-ranger with a triple camera Galaxy A7 (2018) and a couple of entry-level devices in Galaxy J4+ and Galaxy J6+. Meanwhile Xiaomi gave us two more members of the Mi 8 family - the Mi 8 Lite and Mi 8 Pro, while Meizu gave us four new handsets - the 16X, the X8 and the V8 duo. Meanwhile OnePlus was a prominent feature in our rumor mill with its 6T flagship, along with Xiaomi and its upcoimng Redmi Note 6 Pro mid-ranger. . We are also still feeling the aftermath of the iPhone...

Remember the AirPower? Apple doesn't

We were given a sneak peek in 2017, but Apple's AirPower still hasn't seen the light of day. With nothing forthcoming from Apple, has it been canceled or delayed? September 14 2017, was the day Apple introduced us to its then-new iPhone 8/8 Plus, and who can forget the Phone X and with them an overdue feature arrived - wireless charging. Clothed with glass backsides, the new iPhones were capable of being wirelessly charged at 5W at launch. A subsequent software update raised the ceiling to 7.5W. Apple also took the opportunity to give a ‘sneak peek' at a new product - the AirPower...

Top 10 trending phones of week 38

After last week Apple launched the new iPhone lineup it immediately occupied the first three spots in our popularity chart. Such a domination was never going to last, but it's still surprising how quickly the new iPhone trio started to lose ground despite just hitting the shelves. The iPhone XS Max is the only one on the podium hanging onto second, while the regular XS and the XR are all the way down to fifth and seventh places. The title this week goes to the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018), which just debuted with its triple camera setup - a first for a mid-range phone. The Xiaomi...

Sony WH-1000XM3 review - the best noise-cancelling in town

Introduction With version three of its over the ear wireless noise-cancelling headphones, Sony is making the biggest changes both outside and in. The WH-1000XM3 build on the established formula of its predecessors and take direct aim at Bose's ubiquitous QuietComfort 35 II. I found Sony's latest cans outdo the Bose in terms of noise-cancelling, but whether they sound better than Sony's own 1000X's is a more complicated question entirely. I'll preface this article by saying that it isn't one of our typical test-filled reviews and that I'm not an audiophile but rather a regular techie...

RIP Apple iPhone SE

To quote Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die." This popular passage refers to the balanced, cyclical nature of life, helping to justify that there is a right time for everything. But was this the right time for the demise of the iPhone SE? When Apple announced the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR (don't get me started on those names) in the background it quietly retired the venerable iPhone SE. When it all began: 6 years ago, back in 2012, Apple released the iPhone 5...

Weekly poll: Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) and its triple camera, love it or hate it?

A sign of things to come or an outlier? The Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) has a triple camera on its back and a fingerprint reader on its side, quite an unusual design for Samsung. Perhaps we're seeing the company test things ahead of the upcoming Galaxy S flagship. The Galaxy A7 (2018) in black, blue, gold and pink Because just like an S flagship, the new A7 model has a tall Super AMOLED screen, IP68 waterproofing and Samsung Pay. There are even things like a microSD slot and a 3.5mm jack, Samsung is one of the few remaining companies to offer such staples. But you probably...

9 reasons to upgrade to iPhone XS Max (and 3 not to)

First, let's get this out of the way - if you are currently a happy owner of the iPhone X, or even not-so-satisfied one, don't bother. Even if you are eyeing the extra screen real estate on the XS Max, the price premium is just not worth it. But if you are coming from an iPhone Apple, or even an iPhone 8 Plus, there are a few compelling reasons to opt for the iPhone XS Max. We'll now try and summarize all you stand to gain by going for Apple's latest and greatest: Camera The camera quality on the new iPhone XS Max has been vastly improved all thanks to the revamped 12MP main sensor. The...

Bose SoundSport Free review

The Bose SoundSport Free is Bose's first attempt at truly wireless earphones. They are part of the company's SoundSport series, which is aimed at fitness enthusiasts. The completely wireless form-factor is a match made in heaven for a fitness-centric set of earphones. Add to that the general Bose quality, and we may be looking at a truly outstanding product. But is that really the case? Not quite. Read on to learn more. Design Visually, the Bose SoundSport Free essentially look like the Bose SoundSport but without the cable attaching the two modules. Each individual speaker...
