Samsung shares some details about Galaxy S8's digital assistant
Samsung has already confirmed that its next Galaxy S flagship smartphone - the Galaxy S8 - will feature an enhanced artificial-intelligence service. There have even been reports that the service will be called Bixby. Now, the South Korean company has revealed some details about the digital assistant. "We are developing a key major interface which will bring about a totally new paradigm; an open AI platform," said Samsung Electronics' Vice President Rhee In-jong. "The current Galaxy smartphones need separate applications for users, for instance, to order pizza or coffee. But, the new...

Samsung Galaxy Note7's battery limiting update starts rolling out in Canada as well
After the US, Europe, Australia, and South Korea, Samsung has now pushed out Galaxy Note7's battery limiting update in Canada as well. The update, in case you aren't already aware, limits the device to a maximum charge of 60%. Post-update, Galaxy Note7 users in Canada should also see a reminder pop-up notification each time they charge, reboot, or turn on the screen of their device. In case you missed, the South Korean company recently revealed that around 85% of all the faulty Note7 units sold in the United States have either been returned or exchanged. In the New Zealand, the firm...
Gear S3 again available to pre-order in UK from Samsung; Amazon starts accepting pre-orders in Europe
If you recall, official UK pre-orders for the Samsung Gear S3 went live late last month, but the stock lasted only for a few days. Well, the good news is that the South Korean company has again started accepting Gear S3 pre-orders in the UK. As was the case previously, both Classic and Frontier variants are up for grabs, setting you back £349 each. The promo where-in those purchasing the watch will get free Level Active headphones is also there, but has been expanded to the first 3,000 customers now. Meanwhile, Amazon has also started taking Gear S3 pre-orders in Europe - the...
Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge start receiving November security patch
T-Mobile has started pushing out a new update to Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge smartphones on its network. Arriving as software version G930TUVU4APK1 and G935TUVU4APK1, respectively, and weighing in at over 80MB, the update brings along Android security patch for the month of November. Weekly poll: Huawei Mate 9 - how are you liking it?
Big-screen flagships are one short this season in the absence of the Samsung Galaxy Note7. Or are they? The Huawei Mate 9 was expected sometime this fall, and sure enough it's here, but a Mate 9 Porsche Design has arrived as well, dual-curved like a certain Samsung top-shelf model. The PD Mate 9 may be redefining the 'top-shelf' term, though, with a list price just short of EUR 1,400. The Mate 9 proper comes first on our list, however, as the more sensible of the two. An expansive if not too pixel-dense 5.9-inch FullHD display, and a dual-camera setup like no other already...
Top 10 trending phones of week 44
It's a sad week for the Xiaomi Mi Mix (well, as far our trending phones chart goes) - the bezelless smartphone has tumbled 4 spots down from its top position last week. That's cleared the way for the usual suspects and the podium has taken a rather familiar shape - Redmi Note 3 in number 1, Galaxy J7 (2016) and J7 Prime next to it. Entering the chart at number 4, the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design is the higher-ranked of the two Mates, higher-priced too (2x). The 6th to 8th trio remains unchanged - Redmi 3s Prime, iPhone 7 and Galaxy J5 (2016), in this order. The Xiaomi Mi Note 2...
Weekly poll results: Xiaomi Mi Mix soaks up the fan love
If it was meant as a proof of concept, you can count it proven - the concept-phone-turned-real Xiaomi Mi Mix has gotten raving approval in our weekly poll, much to the tune of our own feelings about it. In one way or another 93% of voters appreciate the Mix' bezelless design, which makes it stand out in a world of footprint-wasting iPhones and Pixels. Now, the all-out 'I'm getting one' replies were just 54%, and we understand that - it's hardly perfect. That's why we gave you the two outs. A quarter of all voters love the design, only aren't quite as thrilled about the Xiaomi...
Week 44 in review: Huawei Mate 9 most interesting of a bunch of new phones
A host of new phones were announced this week, but none shines brighter than the Huawei Mate 9 and Mate 9 Porsche Design pair. Huawei is all about collaborations recently (Leica being the obvious reference) but the Porsche Design came as a bit of a surprise, even if we were hinted of a dual-curved version of the flagship. A brand new Kirin 960 chipset, a dual camera on the back (mismatched as it may be at first glance - 20MP monochrome/12MP color), a sizeable battery, and large display - the new Mates take the best from the old Mates and mix it with some P9 to make a truly intriguing...
Child watchphones overview
Starting off with a disclaimer, this author won't pretend to know the least bit about parenting first-hand. That said, some of the basic principles in this otherwise complex field for grown-ups aren't entirely foreign to him. Take, for example, the freedom vs. safety conundrum - you want to always know where your child is, yet you can't constantly be watching over them, plus they do need to be introduced to the concept of independence at some point. You might get them a smartphone, but those are expensive, prone to losing, and open up a world of possibilities a 5-year-old is clearly not...
