Samsung introduces 7nm Exynos 9825 right ahead of Galaxy Note10 unveiling

Samsung has just released the Exynos 9825 chipset, hours before the Unpacked event where the Galaxy Note10 will be announced. The new SoC is built on the 7nm EUV process node and is an upgrade over the 8nm Exynos 9820 with a faster Mali-G76 MP12 GPU. The platform is first in the industry with the EUV processing technology, albeit not being the first on the 7 nm process - the Exynos 9820 was built on the 8 nm LPP process. Samsung said the 9825 will bring improved gaming experience and graphics performance in a power-efficient package, meaning the upgraded chip is more about...

Redmi 7A is now available from offline stores in India, more expensive than online

Xiaomi's Redmi 7A has so far been available through online sales, but that is changing today. The entry-level smartphone is now also available through offline retail channels, but there is a catch. Buying the device from a physical store instead of online will command an INR 200 price premium. So while the base model with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage costs INR 5,999 online, to buy this one from a brick-and-mortar store you'll pay INR 6,199. Similarly, the version with 32GB of storage is priced at INR 6,199 online, and INR 6,399 offline. So you'll be eating some of the costs of...

Samsung has a change of heart regarding security updates for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge

Back in June Samsung decided that the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are old enough that they don't warrant receiving quarterly security updates anymore, so the company bumped them into a category that gets "other" (read: less frequent) updates. That wasn't a huge surprise considering the phones were launched more than three years ago, but now Samsung has changed its mind. Both the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are back on the quarterly security updates train, and this is great news for owners of these devices, regardless of what the reasoning for such a move may be. Even Google only promises three years...

Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 4G starts working on Verizon on August 8

Mobvoi announced the new TicWatch Pro last month, and one of its main additions is 4G LTE connectivity. At the unveiling, the company mentioned that it had partnered with Verizon in the US to let the users connect their wearables to its network. Except this hasn't been possible so far. That will all change in a couple of days. Starting on August 8, Verizon will let you activate a TicWatch Pro 4G on its network. You can do that via the My Verizon app or the website. Wearable plans at the carrier start at $10 per month, and you'll also need to pay a one-time activation fee. The...

HTC Desire 19+ is coming to Germany for €329

HTC may have its fair share of troubles in general, and in the UK in particular, but it's still operating as before in continental Europe. And it's now getting ready to release a new smartphone in Germany. We're talking about the Desire 19+, which got announced for the Taiwanese market back in June. The phone is expected to become available in Germany in the next couple of weeks. It will cost €329, unlocked and SIM-free. That may not seem like much, but the specs the phone brings to the table aren't anything to write home about either. It's got a 6.2-inch 720x1520 19:9 LCD...

OnePlus 6T is $50 off until the end of the month, comes with free case and headphones

The OnePlus 6T launched last year is still for sale in the US from the company's website, because for some reason it decided not to launch the OnePlus 7 over there (which is, for all intents and purposes, an evolution of the 6T unlike the 7 Pro which is an entirely new beast in the lineup). From now and up until the end of this month, OnePlus is holding a Back to School promo, cutting the 6T's price by $50 and giving you a couple of free accessories too. With the price cut, the OnePlus 6T now starts at $469, with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. If you want 8GB of RAM, you'll pay $499,...

АТ&Т launches 5G in New York City for business customers

AT&T's 5G network is finally up and running in one of the largest cities in the world - New York City. The catch is that even if you want to, you can't use it right now because it's only available for business customers. Of course, the network is far from ready. It's only available in small spots throughout the city and uses the millimeter wave, which is quite fast but has limited range. Moreover, indoor connections pose a challenge. A more practical implementation of the 5G will come in the following months on the sub-6GHz frequencies while nation-wide coverage should be expected...

Samsung Galaxy Note10 and Note10+ - what to expect

The Samsung Note10 lineup is all set to launch tomorrow and it's a good time to sum up all the rumors from the last month or two and try to paint a full picture. And as always, we have plenty of info on the upcoming Note10 and the Note10+. For the first time ever, Samsung is launching three phones in the same Note generation. We are fairly certain at this point that the Korean tech giant is looking to release a vanilla Galaxy Note10 version, a plus-sized model and a 5G-capable variant for some markets. Unlike the Galaxy S10 5G, however, the 5G Note10 will seemingly be identical to...

OnePlus 7 Pro 5G is coming soon to Sprint

Sprint and OnePlus today have announced the introduction of a OnePlus 5G smartphone to the US carrier's network. Sprint hasn't named the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G specifically but given that it's OnePlus' only 5G smartphone, there are just no other candidates. Sprint also hasn't disclosed the date or pricing at which the 5G OnePlus will be available, but we should should hear more about those soon enough. Of course there's an off chance that the device in question is the OnePlus 7T Pro, which is due in a few months. However an announcement for that so early would be more than a little...

SoftBank President accidentally reveals iPhone 11 launch date

During a quarterly earnings report, SoftBank Mobile President Ken Miyauchi inadvertently revealed that the iPhone 11 lineup will go on sale ten days before the end of September. This means that the new iPhones will be available for purchase on September 20. The date is hardly surprising, falling in line with Apple's usual release schedule in the past years. Miyauchi spilled the launch details in response to a question from a journalist concerning a new telecommunications law which goes into effect starting October 1. The new regulation will require carriers in Japan to split data...

64MP quad-cam flagship to be called Realme 5, CEO confirms

Realme is expected to announce its 64MP quad camera smartphone soon. The company has scheduled an event in India on August 8 where it will showcase its camera, but we are unlikely to get more details about the phones until later. Many are assuming this 64MP quad camera smartphone will be called the Realme 4, but that's unlikely to happen as Chinese smartphone brands skip the number four because it's considered unlucky in their home country. Well, adding further credence to that speculation, Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth has indirectly confirmed that the company will indeed skip the...

Counterpoint predicts Galaxy Note10 sales will be level with the Note9

Samsung may be doubling the number of phones in the next generation Galaxy Note, but this doesn't mean that sales will double - in fact, analysts from Counterpoint believe that numbers will stay flat. They forecast that the combined Samsung Galaxy Note10 sales will reach 9.7 million units by the end of the year. That's a hair over the 9.6 million units that the Galaxy Note9 managed last year. Both lag behind the Galaxy Note8, which sold 10 million in the same period. Of course, there was pent up demand for a new model back then as the "the Note that shall not be named" was pulled from...

Apple Card roll-out begins today for select users

The select few will be able to sign up for the service and apply for their cards ahead of the wider rollout scheduled for later this month. In addition, Apple also released several introductory videos detailing how to set up the card and use its basic features. The setup procedure requires a device running iOS 12.4 or later and entering your personal details in a form via the Wallet app. The data will then be approved by...

Leaked Galaxy Note10 images compare the size to Note10+, show off new color

Samsung's new flagship will come in two sizes - Galaxy Note10 and Note10+. Thanks to dummies, we've seen a size comparison of the phones and of their screens and by the looks of it, Samsung's marketing will emphasize the size difference as well. With a 6.3" screen, the vanilla Galaxy Note10 will be the smallest handset with an S Pen in quite a while, which may bring in a new group of buyers. You'll lose some functionality (e.g. no 3D ToF sensor on the back), but you'll also save €150. Big screen fans will get a 6.8" panel with the Plus model. Also, check out this lifestyle shot of...

When the LG V50 ThinQ launched the company released an additional screen case which attached to the phone resulting in a makeshift foldable phone. The Dual Screen folio case came with a 6.2-inch OLED panel and offered users the utility of a secondary screen for multitasking, playing games or taking photos. Now LG is looking to build on that with the upcoming V60 ThinQ, which will be announced at IFA Berlin this September. The...

HTC stops selling phones in the UK after a patent dispute

HTC cannot catch a break with its smartphone business - in another unfavorable development the Taiwanese company is now blocked from selling its phones through major retailers in the United Kingdom after a patent dispute with Munich-based company Ipcom. The R&D entity claims it has licenses over a wireless technology developed for car phones and HTC has agreed to sell its devices with a workaround, but it wasn't implemented. It said the Taiwanese manufacturer had displayed "disregard for the law by contravening a UK court ruling". An HTC spokesperson was quoted that the company...
