Redmi 9T in for review

6,000 mAh – that’s the battery capacity of the Redmi 9T which came out in the early days of this year. €159 is its asking price and it’s actually known as the Redmi 9 Power in India. We just so happened to receive a stealthy Carbon Gray Redmi 9T unit and these are our first impressions as we begin work on our review. For starters, the phone feels thick (9.6mm) and heavy (198 grams) as was to be expected with that kind of battery capacity. The back is made from plastic and features a groovy texture that helps with the grip and keeps smudges at bay. The sides are plastic and unlocking...

Poco F3 will be the rebranded Redmi K40 for global markets

Ever since Xiaomi's sub-brand Redmi made the K40 series official in China last week, we've been hearing rumors that one or more of its members would be released in global markets under the Poco brand - a prior certification attested as much. Now this phone has also been certified by the US FCC, and the mystery has been cleared up. The Poco F3 will be the Redmi K40 for global markets. This makes us think that there will also be a Poco F3 Pro, which would be either a rebranded Redmi K40 Pro or K40 Pro+, but there's no information on that one yet. Redmi K40, soon to be Poco F3 Back to...

Unknown Realme phone leaks through 3D renders

While the Realme GT is getting most of the attention, the company is working on other phones as well. One of them was recreated in 3D by @OnLeaks who has some details on what appears to be an affordable model. Unfortunately, the name of it is not yet known. That teardrop notch on the front and the fingerprint reader on the back are sure signs that this is not a flagship. Perhaps not even a mid-ranger. The phone will have a 3.5mm jack and a microSD card slot, but that’s all the info we have so far. Renders of unknown Realme phone The rear setup seems to feature three...

DxOMark gives the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra a lower score than the S20 Ultra

DxOMark has finished its camera review of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra (using an Exynos-powered unit) and the results are not good – the overall score is just 121. Not only is that low, but it’s less than the 126 points awarded to the Galaxy S20 Ultra from a year ago. Note: the S20 Ultra was retested with Version 4 of the review process, so the scores should be comparable. Let’s look at the breakdown. The 2021 model received 128 points for photography, 76 for zoom and 98 for video. The older phone matched the 128 photo score, but is ahead in the zoom (88) and video (106)...

Carbon 1 MK II is first phone in the world with a carbon fiber monocoque

For all its wonderful properties carbon fiber has one big downside when used in smartphones – it blocks radio waves, which is why we only see it used sparingly. YouTube is finally rolling out Shorts - its answer to TikTok

YouTube has started rolling out its new feature Shorts - it is a platform for short videos, shot in portrait orientation, and is an obvious attempt to curb TikTok and its growing influence online. Those in the United States have started receiving the feature, and the global rollout is expected soon. Currently, Shorts is still in Beta, so not all American users will get it after an update of their application. The company is likely doing some A/B testing, but given the fact YouTube has been working on Shorts for the past 12 months, the feature’s stable version should be right around...
