Google announces JBL Link Bar, a soundbar with Assistant and Android TV built-in

Google has announced a new product just a day before I/O 2018 kicks off, the JBL Link Bar, a voice controlled sound bar for your television with Android TV built-in. The Link Bar works primarily like any other sound bar; you connect your television and other audio sources to it via HDMI and play all your sounds through it. The party trick here is the Android TV and Assistant built-in. You can turn on your television and switch to any particular channel using your voice. You can ask the Link Bar to play videos off YouTube or songs from Pandora. You can ask questions or tell it to...

Wang Xiang, Senior VP at the company revealed their team has no plans of stopping and will officially launch Mi devices in France on May 22 and Italy on May 24. This morning, OnePlus tweeted a short video hinting that the phone will be able to record super slo-motion videos. Let's slow down time! This poppin' teaser requires your full...

YouTube picture-in-picture is working for some non-Red users outside of US

Android Oreo brought a feature that would be available for third-party developers: picture-in-picture apps. A perfect example of this is the way that Google Maps is able to tuck away to a corner while you switch to another app to change music or to reply to someone before continuing to your destination. The YouTube app also offers this feature: videos can continue playing in a minimized frame on top of other apps so you can watch videos while you tweet, chat, or edit your weekend trip photos. The biggest limitation is that PIP only works for those who are subscribed to YouTube Red, leaving...

ZTE asks the US Commerce Department to lift its ban

ZTE was banned from buying Qualcomm chipsets for the next seven years after not following through with a settlement breaching a trade embargo. The company had to reprimand or fine 35 employees but didn't comply, and now it faces losing its Android license as well. According to Reuters, the manufacturer has given additional material to the Bureau of Industry and Security of the US Commerce Department to have the ban lifted. The source does not reveal what type of documents they were or when exactly they were filed. ZTE is heavily reliant on the Snapdragon chipsets, and such a ban is...

ZTE's subsidiary nubia has its own solution for border-less phones, introduced back in 2015 with the launch of the nubia Z9. The image says simply "Full-Screen 3.0", suggesting that a new borderless device is already on its way. Sources tell the selfie camera will be placed on top of the screen, in the middle, probably similar to the Essential PH-1. If these hold water, this will mean nubia has decided to follow its...

Apple replacing some iPhone X units plagued with Face ID issues

Late last week, it came to light that Apple has asked its Authorized Service Providers to repair iPhone 7 series phones with disabled microphones (caused by iOS 11.3 or later updates). And now, according to another leaked document sent out by Apple to its Authorized Service Providers, the company has detailed the process the service staff should follow when dealing with iPhone X units plagued by Face ID issues.
